Is it true that she hired a personal injury lawyer before the time of the actual incident? That doesn't sound good for her case imo.

Also, I'm willing to wager next to no one in Denver recognizes who he is. Your average hockey players not named Joe or Patrick likely have little recognition on the street there, especially the goalie who's face is always covered.

I am suggesting police should be checking it and Varlamov defense should be pressing it. It is not her job to know where he is buying alcohol? Come on, she lives with him for a year he was drinking a lot and she does not know where he buys beer? I am not buying it. Does your girl know where do you like to hang out and where you buy beer? Do you know where she buys food? And as far, as recognizing Varlamov goes - use the same way they do with regular people - just show his picture and ask staff if this guy buys or hangs out there often.

It does seem a tad odd that she's sending out photos of herself, and holding interviews so soon after such an event (or at all). You'd assume somebody like this would want to be dealing with things a little more privately at this stage. But then again I've never gone through something like this, so Im not really one to say whats normal here.

I am not blaming anyone yet. I have no clue what happened there - and I do not defend Varlamov because he is Russian as she is Russian as well. I am just pointing out how this story could be figured out.

If he's a terrible drunk when he's at home how can it be proven?

By questioning shops where he is buying alcohol. He is millionaire, he probably uses card. Check out transactions. If he pays cash, ask saleperson if she recognize him. If orders it on web, ask delivery guys. You have to interact with others to get alcohol.

Been awhile since I've bought alcohol in the US, so things might have changed...
But given that in the US you can buy alcohol anywhere, including grocery stores, and 7-11... they probably could care less who he is, and what he buys. It's just a lot of leg work for what is probably an overworked police force, as your asking them to go to every grocery store, wine shop, convenience store, etc, in the Denver area.
And even if they do know who he is, a pro athlete buying a lot of alcohol doesn't scream... red flag

Besides, there's probably a ton of multimillionaires with well stocked home bars that wouldn't require them to buy alcohol every time they do drink. I know I could get ####faced multiple times off the booze I purchased months, maybe years, ago that wouldn't be "traceable" like Pointman is suggesting and I'm far (far far far) from a millionaire. An investigation, unless the girlfriend was caught lying or he has a solid alibi the night in question, could only really prove he was drinking if he denies it. I don't see a situation where it could prove he wasn't if his mastercard doesn't have a bar purchase, especially with a 'famous' pro-athlete who might not even be paying for his drinks that night. And still this isn't CSI.

Quote:
Robert Abrams, the attorney for Vavrinyuk, said the couple had been dating for a year and that Varlamov assaulted her on four other occasions. Abrams said this one wasn't the most serious -- and followed hours of drinking by Varlamov -- but that his client decided to tell police this time because after the assault she went home and found all her things had been thrown into the hallway and her bank account had been cut off by Varlamov.
Abrams said he asked Vavrinyuk to wait a day to think about whether she wanted to go to the police. She did and went to the police on Wednesday morning. Afterward, she went to the hospital, where she was examined and released.
"She wants the world to know that this famous star is a mean, nasty and hostile individual," Abrams said.

Or maybe he's taking hockey seriously and doesn't want to face any kind of affects from drinking. We've all had the kind of morning where you have 2 or 3 beer and wake up in the morning feeling terrible, maybe he doesn't want to do that. Some say it helps them relax, for some it doesn't. Him not drinking during the season could just mean that he's taking hockey really seriously for once and his play has reflected that

You're not understanding what I'm saying.
Say he drinks once a month. And when he does, he's a terrible drunk. Asking grocery stores or liquor stores about him will do nothing. They probably wouldn't even recognize him. He may have bought a lot of booze a year ago......with cash.
There are ways around it. Questioning some cashier at a gas station in Denver isn't going to prove anything one way or the other.

Kicking your girlfriend must be a show of affection in Semyon's world. Just what is 3rd degree assault and 2nd degree kidnapping?
It sounds like the charges are being played down in Varlamov's favor.
If he did this he is a A-hole and a angry drunk.

and if he didn't, she's a gold digger. Didn't she have a lawyer before it happened? At this point I'm not going to pass judgement on either of them but I will say that it sounds fishy on her part.

Perhaps she is. If he stomped her out and she sees it as a payday, then her actions are sketchy. However, there's a huge chasm on the awfulness scale between acting sketchy and committing assault against your gf.
And if this has happened before, it's not even sketchy on her part. It's just too bad that her choice wasn't "go home" instead of "get a lawyer"

If there's one thing I know about these situations, it's not an either/or scenario. Is there some vindictiveness and ulterior motives involved in laying charges at this point? Probably. Does that mean Varlamov is a great guy who never abused, intimidated or assaulted her? No.
Wheteher that leads to a conviction or not is another story. Going public with your lawyer as a victim is not a good idea if you want him criminally punished. I think it's likely the charges are dropped and a settlement is reached before the case ever goes to civil trial.
