5 on 3 more so, for sure. I bet 6 on 4 is not practiced very much and that extra player isn't quite as useful as there isn't that clear position for him, which can do more harm then good to the attackers. The defense playing the same scheme and box no matter if 5 or 6 offensive players.
Again, I think the Flames would've generated more chances in an extended 5 on 4 to a 6 on 5 if they could get the goalie out after the penalty, then put the eggs in a basket for a 6 on 4 pp and risk a single play and a shot from behind the red line into an open net.
Though I am sure he'll be asked about his Backlund decision first.
