I think there will be construction by next fall but probably won't be complete for 3-4 years so both 1&2

Has the official route for the SW leg been determined?

I'd bet 7-10 years. It's going to be a couple of years before they're even done all of the archeological work.

Has anything more than a conceptual design been completed?

I'll update my "no" to "yes plans are drawn up but are subject to change." There were changes made from the planning studies to the final design of the SE.

It is possible that he doesn't have voting rights as a full member of the band. They have fairly strict guidelines as to who is considered a full band member and who isn't.

They have done some pretty detailed engineering on the route of the hill at 16th ave and the interchanges from Mcleod to 162nd but it all needs to go through the community consulting phase.

From start of construction it will take around 3 years to build so you still have 4 years to plan to hit the 7 year mark. I would be willing to bet on opening before Dec 31st 2020.

Wait, so the 162nd overpass will be integrated with the Macleod and 22x interchange?

Ugh, finally. I was always confused as to why they stopped the overpasses at Shawville Blvd when 162nd was clearly the more pressing intersection. It seriously has to be one of the worst suburban intersections in the city. You can easily wait 4 or 5 lights during rush hour.

Are they doing 162nd? I haven't seen that despite my thinking it is absolutely necessary.

Keating during the election campaign said that the overpass there was at a high priority level with the city.

That said you will end up with weave issues with the Mcleod/22X interchange so the accesses going south will likely be limted in some way. I haven't seen any design proposals though.

The South West Ring Road will remove a lot of that congestion because all of the traffic that goes 162nd Mcleod, Anderson, 14th will go the other way. Still needed though.

I can see some of the traffic being alleviated as you say, but there is no doubt in my mind that there are still thousands of SW residents (and an increasing amount with Providence) that will want to head North towards downtown or wherever else. The Ring Road won't be much help in that regard, and that intersection is a complete bottleneck.

It will be interesting to see what the traffic patterns look like for going downtown once the SW portion is built. The natural routes from the west side would be north on Sarcee to Bow Trail, or East on Glenmore to Crowchild. In either case upgrades would be needed downstream from the new road in order to handle increased traffic. I know there are plans to free-flow the Sarcee-Richmond interchange and the Sarcee-Bow interchange, but nothing on record for changes to the Eastbound Glenmore-Northbound Crowchild movement.

Will be interesting to see what is planned or what will be needed based on actual patterns.

Crowchild N will be a bottleneck into DT, unless those coming from the south take Sarcee to Bow and come into DT via Bow.

The plans are in place and the right-of way marked out to expand W/E Glenmore to 3 lanes both ways from Sarcee (or at least 37st) to Crowchild.

But once one hits Crowchild, you have a single turning lane/ramp to N/B Crowchild currently. The W/B Glenmore to Crowchild should be less busy (people coming from the south/14ST) but Crowchild itself won't be as people just take a different route to get to N/B Crowchild and some may even skip going down MacLeod.

Anyways, very good news for the city. Living here my whole life, living in the south, with relatives in Killarney growing up, then going to MRC and U of C for school it never made sense to be restricted to that one and only way to and from the far SW to the mid SW with just wide open land between there. Accidents on the causeway? Would ake 90 minutes to get home from the U of C 15 years ago.

Will be interesting to see when they start the work how careful they have to be near the old CF firing range, with likley hundreds of undetonated munitions.

The 2009 plans actually showed a 10-lane Glenmore! The deal would allow for widening between Sarcee and 37th street.

I think this is a good deal for the Tsuu T'ina reserve, and I hope they can invest this money they'll be receiving to improve their future. I used to live next to the Westside First Nation and being able to watch them develop their land into servicable and profitable uses is beneficial for all members of the band, and will serve future generations well.
