I hope they turn down any and all offers made. There is nothing that pleases me more than listening to uneducated white Canadians bitch about the native people of this wonderful land we call Canada.
Seems like an unnecessary antagonistic post.

Vote: 624 for, 280 against (70% approval)

Ring Road APPROVED by Tsuu T'ina members - Double sourced confirmation - Details @GlobalCalgary 11:00 #yyc

"Tsuu T'ina people make "An emotional decision" say sources to approve ring road deal"

But...

Quote:
"It’s obviously devastating, not just for my family but others,” said Cory Cardinal, as he scrolled through Facebook posts of people reacting to the approval.

Cardinal did not vote Thursday but his family home is expected to be in the path of the road, which has been tied up in negotiations for more than four decades.

"There is no way Canadians would ever be OK with digging up dead presidents to pave over them,” [Tricia Crowchild] said, referring to burial grounds also believed to be in the path of the road.
It's a good thing we don't have presidents.

In all seriousness, I'd hope anyone whose home is in the path of destruction is fairly compensated. I'll cool it with the gifs because some people's lives got turned upside down tonight.

Full deal released Friday; Chief Whitney will speak, and Redford/McIver have a press conference scheduled as well.

"It's a yes: Sources say Tsuu T'ina First Nation band members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of new ring road deal #ableg #yyc" - Jamie Komarnicki (@j_komarnick)

Good stuff; it was the only option. Now we legitimately have a ring road! (Pending)

Probably a clause stipulating that they must start construction within a certain amount of time, as there was in the last deal... I imagine AB Trans either intends to make previsions to realign and intends to ask the boundaries to be redrawn in such a way so as to avoid said area, or they plan to exhume and relocate. I can't imagine they're just going to plow right through or fata is going to seriously hit the fan

There's probably not a good way to make the route to avoid all burial grounds, in generations passed, they likely buried people just about everywhere.

I sure hope part of the agreement is a plan to relocate remains that are found to a place approved by the Tsuu Tina.

I imagine they know where everything is in regards to Chevra Kadisha so even if they make an uproar it will be less of an issue to solve; but if the Tsuu T'ina situation is as Thneed describes, it's gonna be dicey.

Wasn't most, if not all, of the land in question used by the Army as a live-ordinance training ground for most of the 20th Century?

I think they're more likely to dig up some un-exploded bombs than they are old graves.

So burial grounds have to be treated with respect, no doubt. But I am the only one confused by this:

Quote:
"It’s obviously devastating, not just for my family but others,” said Cory Cardinal,

Cardinal did not vote Thursday
I get how this will be a blow to some of our neighbors affected by the road... but why didn't he vote if this is devastating? Hard to feel terrible for someone didn't even try to change their fate.

Is there any chance he wasn't allowed to vote?

Great news, this deal is great for the city and forthe tsu tina. They are now positioned to become an economic powerhouse. The city gets the last stage of the ring road and 5 years from now my cmmute to Banff is reduced by 15 minutes. A big win for the Yop Gobblers.

Indeed. Irony is a bigot whining about racism.

Anyway, colour me surprised on the result. Nice to finally have that part put behind us. How many years was it?

I spent the last 20 years believing the ring road would not completed in my lifetime. This is good to see.

We should start a poll.

When do you think the SW ring road will be completed.

1-3 years
4-7 years
7-10 years
10-20 years
Never.

Choice "4 to 7 years". It will take around 5 years is my guess.
