If anybody actually watched that game, I'm sure they'd all agree the Pens dominated. Giguere stood on his head.

Keep it up flames! People can keep doubting and waiting for the wheels to fall off but we're eight games in and the effort has been there in every single game. It's too bad the east is sooo bad... Their record against the west has made it so it's going to take a very good record to make the playoffs in the west. Meanwhile, teams like the leafs and Montreal will probably make the playoffs with a record just over .500

What a fantastic win!
The Kings did their best to intimidate but the Flames just kept coming.
Huge game for Ramo. Russell played well too. Gio of course. Brodie totally stepped up after a bad game - and that was true prior to the goal.
Cammalleri looked great out there -an amazing first game. Completely changed the PP. I was a bit worried about how he would fit with the team but he really seemed to feed off the team's energy. Excellent to see.
And Hudler just keeps bringing it.
Baertschi had another fantastic game. And the Monarail just keeps rolling.
Oh Colborne too - he has gotten better each game.
This team is so fun to watch.
And there wasn't one single comment in the GT or the PGT about the Flames screwing up the rebuild - so much more enjoyable to cheer for wins!

Biggest thing I noticed about Colborne is that he is starting to use his size down low to break people off the puck. Can tell he's getting more comfortable with the system and the pace Hartley is asking from the team
Great win... I'm loving this team.

Just looking at some stats on NHL.com, and noticed Gio is second in points by a defenseman. Keep it up Cap'n!

I just can't believe it took the Flames so long to draft a Canadian center who is good in all 3 zones and has a high hockey IQ. They missed a ton of them in various drafts and these are the players who end up being the backbone of an entire hockey team.
The last young guy who was this good out of the gate was Iginla. Hopefully the Flames don't put themselves in a "see I told you so" rebuild timeframe with the fanbase again. Monahan is awesome.

Yeah, and Iginla wasn't AS good through 9 games as this kid.

It's a good feeling, yet still a weird feeling to see a Flames Captain get off to a hot start to begin a season

Angry Backlund is fantastic. I'm becoming a big fan of his; loved him in that one scrum around Ramo.
This team is tons of fun to watch. I really don't have many complaints; the effort is just fantastic.
Monahan is for real.

Bullcrap. The Flames simply haven't had the opportunity to draft a player like Monahan. Here are all the really notable centres we could conceivably have drafted since 1996. Note that in most cases we would have needed to use our first round pick to grab a guy off this list.
1996 - Briere
1997 - None
1998 - Gomez, Ribero
1999 - None
2000 - None
2001 - Roy, Plekanec
2002 - Alex Steen, Jarret Stoll
2003 - Carter, Parise, Getzlaf, Kessler, Richards, Bergeron
2004 - Dubinsky
2005 - Stastny
2006 - None
2007 - None
2008 - Stepan, Henrique
2009 - O'Reilly, Johanssen
2010 - None
2011 - Boone Jenner
2012 - None
Only in the outlier year of 2003 were there real quality "build your team around" centres available after the Flames picked, and we took Phaneuf that year which is a pretty impossible pick to fault.
Even in the Rico Fata year the guys we missed out on were Gomez and Ribero, neither of whom went anywhere near the Flames' choice.

Just watched the game, so comment time:
- Great to have Cammalleri back. Really helps to have some offensive depth, and the guy fits right in.
- Colborne again with his best game so far. Learning fast seems to be a theme this year. He's starting to be noticeable, using his size more and getting some chances.
- Monahan ' Hudler I was kind of meh on Hudler in the first couple of games, felt like he was forcing things and losing pucks unnecessarly as a result. Seems like he was just getting warmed up. Hartley has mentioned Hudler being a mentor to Monahan. Can't complain with the results, they seem to have great chemistry, and that combined hockey IQ is just beatiful to watch.
- Karri Rämö with the what I'd call the first real #1 goalie performance by a Flames goalie this year. Comforting to say the least.
- As a negative notion: Right now we're basicly rotating 5 ½ D-men, as O'Brien only plays ~10 minutes a night. 213th out of 219 NHL defenseman in TOI/G, and every player behind him is the 7th or 8th defenseman on the team. He had 8:31 icetime last night, that's just silly low.
At the same time, Wideman got 29+ minutes, Giordano 28+, and IMO the SH goal against was a direct result of that. That should have been an easy clear for those two guys. The Kings obviously went after our defensemen, and Giordano especially started to look very worn down by the end of the game. Other teams will keep doing the same, as it's an obvious weak spot on our team.
Minutes like that are not sustainable over 82 games, it's going to cost us unnecessary goals against plus it's an injury risk.
We need another guy that can play the normal 14-15 minutes required.

I fell asleep last night in the first period, argh!
Sounds like it was a good game, glad to hear it.
Huge discrepancy between Monahan and Baertschi's ice times, did they not play together last night?

Monahan got 6 minutes of powerplay time, that's the difference basicly.
