Exactly. I volunteered for him in 2010 and that was the first thing I noticed then. It has intensified since then. It's like Miley Cyrus with twerking.

I had no idea Nenshi was related to Al Noor. Wasn't he the guy who tried to run for mayor a few elections ago, but failed because of bad publicity over raising the rent on one of his rental properties by some astronomical amount?

Not related to Alnoor Kassam. His brother-in-law is an Al-Noor.

Yup. Wenzel 9 - Nenshi 6. The only things that can save us is if Nenshi can use the weight of his mandate (74% support) to sway two councillors, or if two of team Wenzel go rogue and decide they'd rather come through for their constituents on lower taxes than come through for their financers on levies.

This the one thing I can't stand about Calgary. The love for never ending sprawl of earth toned stucco cookie cutter houses with massive lawns. It's almost as off the reservation nuts as Americans with guns. Something that has a single aspect that people like but has all kinds of consequences that negatively impacts everyone.

So it looks like Ward 1 is going to go to a recount, Sutherland shown winning by only 85 votes.
Also, it is too early this morning.

I can't see why anyone would have voted for him unless they really, really think he was the right man for mayor. I'm not a Nenshi fan at all but I'm certainly not going to vote for a worse candidate so I abstained from voting for mayor.
I will say though if I lived in Ward 7 I would have voted anyone but Farrell regardless of their competence as I feel she's a cancer in city hall that needs to go for the betterment of the city.

Massive lawns in suburban Calgary? Admittedly I don't spend much time in the suburbs, but every low-density community I've ever visited only has tiny postage stamp lawns that are no larger than the living room in my condo.

Yeah we don't have massive lawns, one thing I can't stand, the ridiculous hyperbole around suburbs and the dreaded sprawl.

Indeed, and I can't stand the hyperbole about all inner-city living being 30 storey highrises.
So many options between those two extremes.

Yeah, unfortunately a lot of people seem to have this idea that no matter what, if you don't live in the inner city, Nenshi will make you pay $4000.

He sent hired goons to collect from the folks on my street in McKenzie Towne, they said it was for protection.

My favorite so far:
Yeah that's why 75% of people didn't vote.

I voted for Lord and I didn't know who he was. Knowing there was not a fat chance in hell that Nenshi would lose, I voted Lord to let Nenshi know not everyone is happy with him jakcing up property tax rate by 30% since he took the helm.
I'm glad a few fiscal hawks won, Chu, Magliocca, and Woolley.

Maybe not in the traditional sense but he is when comparing to the "1.5% -2% redevelopment fee" John Mar.
