"brave" is a good word if you don't want to use "stupid" in this case. I had no problems with them letting Phelan walk, but Meulensteen and Steele were quality people. The players absolutely loved Meulensteen ... RVP for example:
Quote:
"The way he (Meulensteen) trains is exceptional. He is truly one of the best coaches in the world. I have had a lot of good trainers, but it’s the way he prepares our team for games. Every match is different, so every training session in the build-up to games is unique. We know exactly what to expect and he wins points for us through his training. We’ve won a lot of games by the odd goal and they are point winners, which we train for. For instance, against Chelsea I scored after a low cross from Antonio Valencia on the right. It might seem a fluke but the whole week before the game was spent working on that move. Another example is my goal against Wigan, when I cut the ball inside and shot with my right foot. Again this situation, we trained on. Training is really good. It’s a very pleasant environment to work in."
|
And Steele was great too ... when United bought De Gea, Steele learned Spanish in order to help him make the transition to England. I can't really say anything about the new staff, I don't know them well enough yet, but yeah - kicking out Meulensteen and Steele was indeed "brave".

Similarly, I was disappointed that Liverpool allowed Steve Clarke to leave. By all accounts he was a brilliant coach, as hes shown at West Brom.

Interesting words from Fergie.
Quote:
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he once turned down an approach to become Chelsea's manager.
"David will be fine. He’s a good manager. You would be throwing your money down the drain if you put any money on me coming back as a manager.
"I made my decision. The timing was perfect. There is no way back for me now.
"I’ve got a new life. I want to go the Kentucky Derby and the US Masters, the Melbourne Cup. I want to visit vineyards in Tuscany and France."

Interesting that you post this. I was involved in a similar discussion on the main board when Kiprusoff's smoking habit was brought up. I am from Europe originally and I took the opposite side of the argument to you, in that I thought it was a disgrace and an insult to paying fans that any top flight athlete would be caught smoking.
Perhaps it is a cultural thing - most people here in North America don't seem to think it is a big deal at all, while people in Europe seem to equate it with drowning kittens.

Perhaps there was another discussion? I haven't made too many posts, I only joined here a few weeks ago. Click on my username, then stats, then all posts by this user, and they'll come up.

Carrick, RVP, Rooney are just 5 steps ahead of every other player on their team today
Shinji is the only other on that level but Moyes doesn't rate him, just crazy what is going on

My turn ... Vidic has been directly responsible for the last two United goals against ..... clearly an amateur.
