The only downside I see to this trade is that we have another player that will have his name misspelled half the time.

McGratton, Monohan, Baertchi, Seiloff, McDonald all welcome you!

I hope they're wrong, but they're apparently happy to get anything for him at this point. Two NHL teams have given up on him already, maybe this is the wake up call he needs.

I agree with those who think Burke had a hand in this, Burke usually has a good eye for talent. Hope he's right about Colbourne.
They are happy because he would have had to go on waivers and would have been claimed. If it wasn't for the waiver rule (and the Leafs needing to keep 2 goons) they would have kept him or needed more to move him.

The Flames need to be making decisions based 100% on what is best for his development and not concerned about Monahan being so good that we have to pay him big money one year earlier.
These points exactly. It's not a matter of rushing Monahan if, in fact, he's ready. If not? Then do what's best for him in that situation as well.

4th rounder for a C is not that steep of a price lets just hope this kid can find his game on a team that's going to be hard to watch.

Flames are still lacking NHL players in that 22-27 age range especially up front (Backlund, Bouma, Galliardi) so if Joe can make it this will help. From all accounts Knight seems pretty close as well

It's worth it for both teams. The Leafs would lose him for nothing and he is definitely worth a 4th rounder for Calgary.

He did have a really bad wrist injury two seasons ago. That really sidelined his development.

Still have nice size and ability too. The writing is on the wall though as guys like Raymond and Ashton outplayed him.

Agree wholeheartedly. A salary cap issue for one year (highly unlikely 3 years from now) is not a concern. What would be a bigger concern is to alter a kids development plan due to a completely unpredictable unlikely problem.

I see Colborne as a attempt to address the Flames' size issues, I don't see the connection to Monahan. More likely than not, Monahan gets 10 games and they decide then if he's ready.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Colborne assigned to Abbottsford. And if he is, he should provide some good compeition for Reinhart, Horak and Knight. Our Heat lineup looks really good this year, especially at center.

Cannot be assigned without going through waivers again. He'll be playing on the team for the forseeable future.

Im not sure how watching this team can get any harder than the last few years. Last year, the only time it was semi-interesting was when the young kids were inserted into the lineup. I'm looking forward in seeing what the kids can do...even if they lose their games.

Glencross - Stajan - Stempniak
Baertschi - Colborne - Hudler
Backlund - Monahan - Jones
Bouma - Galliardi - Horak

McGrattan / Jackman

Lots of speed to go with all that newly acquired size. Should be interesting to see the team come together over the first 10 or so games.

Edit: With Cammy injured of course to start the season.

Colborne hasn't even proven himself to be 2nd line C in the AHL, let alone the bigs.

Even in his college career he wasn't a big scorer. The price - a 4th - was right but you get what you pay for. If Colborne tops out as a Chris Gratton type player I'd be happy.

If he supplants Horak I'll be annoyed. Smart player who has earned a shot. Colborne is much bigger, but Horak is better in every other respect.

Colborne sounds stoked to be coming to his hometown team, there are so many guys this year living out their lifelong dream of playing for the hometown team. Will be interesting to see how those players play, I have to say this is easily the most excited I've been leading up to game one of the season in a looonnnggg time.

He won't go to Abbortsford. Sending him through waivers would be the dumbest thing we could possibly do.

He got more points then Janikowski in his freshman year and followed it up with a point per game season. Pretty much what we want janikowski to accomplish. I don't know what kind of team Denver had back then but a big skilled body is never a bad thing. If they think Colburne can project to a similar or better player then Horak then I lean towards Colburne because of his size.
