If he shows he simply isn't good enough I bet the flames send him down even if it means losing him. You can't give a roster spot to someone who isn't an NHL player

Colbourne needs to play top six. Wasn't going to get the opportunity in TOR. Will get it in CAL, which is home.
So Backlund and Colborne in the top 6... Stajan on the 3rd line, Monahan on the 4th?
Who wants Monahan playing with Jackman?

Put Backlund on the wing which I think was tried during camp.

Then this was a pretty dumb trade.

While I agree in logic, I can't see them giving up a 4th then placing him on waivers. Of course anything is possible.

Why? Backlund is proving to be a solid top 6 centreman.
Center is the most valuable position is hockey. Why would we force Backlund, a better and more valuable player, to play on the wing in favour of a worse and less valuable player?
If anything, Colborne should go on the wing.

You can always move someone to the wing. And it really isn't the end of the world if Monahan goes down.

Flames aren't just going to give him a top six spot. He will have to earn it

Draft Pick

We COULD send down guys like Horak and Jones to make room for him and Monahan, because based from what ive seen Monahan has been the best centre at camp and we wouldn't run the risk of sending Colbourne through waivers

I could see Colborne being the 3rd line Center behind Stajan and Backlund.

If they give him enough of a look to decide he isn't good enough they would. The fourth is a sunk cost and should have no bearing on any decision from this point forward

Yeah I agree that colborne will probably play wing. I think there's either more moves to come, or the fellow that said Cammy might be out long term could be right.
Monahan is getting sent down after a few games. Which is fine by me. He may e barley NHL ready but I'd rather see him tear up the OHL and the WJC. Will be good for him.

He also doesn't need to play top 6. His skill set may fit in that role.. but its not like the Flames have a top line anyway. They have a bunch of 2nd/3rd line guys to fill the top three lines. Its not like the 3rd line is going to be a big checking/defensive line.

I suppose, if Colborne can't make the Flames, he probably will pass through waivers anyway.

Can he play wing, because he hasn't been able to establish himself up the middle.
I want Backlund and Monahan to get their look in the top 6 at center.
Stajan could then play third line center, and Horak or even Bouma on the fourth line.
This is nothing more then a last chance roll of the dice on a disappointing player.

Cheap price for a potential top six forward. Hartley managed to get the most out of Stajan and Bouwmeester last season, maybe he can work his magic on Colbourne. Can Colbourne play wing, could see him as a RW on the Cammy-Baclklund line

Could possibly have a lineup like this to start if Cammy is out for awhile:
Glencross-Stajan-Stempniak
Colborne-Backlund-Hudler
Baertschi-Galiardi-D. Jones
Bouma-Monahan-Horak
Extra: Jackman, McGrattan
I'm failing to see the issue in having a couple lines with two centres. Might save our behinds a couple times if one is waived out on a crucial faceoff.
