I agree with the other things you said, but these two are way off. I believe Monahan is ALMOST good enough to be a 2nd liner (at least with the Flames, definitely not on a competitor) and he hasn't even played a single regular season game yet. And Baertschi is one of the most skilled offensive players on the whole team, no way he gets less than second line minutes this year.

Just saying...
I imagine there would be a fair bit of a CP meltdown if he gets sent to the Heat. Some will blame him for a poor summer performance, others will freak out about how big a failure the rebuild is. Most will take consolation in the fact that Monahan is still on the team (until he also gets sent down and we all lose our minds).

Fans need to see a youth movement. We need more than Monahan on the team.

Again, if Baertschi isn't on the final roster, I will not be happy. Veterans that have no long term plans with this team can go.

I have no idea why the Flames wouldn't have the full allotment of 23 on their roster, usually this breaks down to 14F, 7D, and 2G. Pretty much every team does, except perhaps this year, when some teams might have less as a way to get under the cap.

Sending Baertschi down would be the wrong move IMO.

If they are not happy with his effort in training camp they should take him aside privately and tell him that they are not happy with his play.

But to send him down now would be a step backwards in his development and has the potential to make him bitter towards this team.

Including Galiardi as a winger, Bärtschi is 1 of only 2 wingers younger than 29 that's likely to make the team. Moving one of Bouma or Horak to the wing (both if you move Galiardi to C) makes 3.

There is absolutely no way he's not a lock.

Is Baertschi considered a lock to stay with the big club?
I've heard some pundits suggest he hasn't shown well in the prospects tourny or pre-season and might get demoted to the Heat to start the season.

Horak's been a pretty good centre at the NHL level already. Knight hasn't proven much and a couple preseason games hasn't changed that.

As mentioned, its likely because he has to clear waivers. As Feaster said in a recent interview, they'll send the players down on waivers at the last minute in order to protect them since its harder for a team to claim a player while maintaining the 23 man roster.

Just playing devil's advocate but how many prospects will become bitter if Baertschi is given a pass over the meritocracy the Flames have been preaching to them?

I find it ridiculous that management cares about Street staying with the organization that much, but had no problems putting Cundari on waivers at the first opportunity.

It's silly that he's still up here.

Jackman and Blair Jones should be gone as well.

Why should he get preferential treatment? His draft position?

If you aren't playing at an NHL level, you shouldn't be with the NHL club. Simple as that. If he chooses to have a poor attitude about that and towards the Flames, that's his problem and speaks volumes to his professionalism. Perhaps it's better to get that out in the open now before we sign the kid for millions.

Not sure I'm buying into this Baertschi on the chopping block, seems to me like more of a kick in the pants tactic than anything.

Not sure you send Backlund and Baertschi to act as flames ambassadors at a marketing event and then send him down to the minors three days later.

For obvious reasons, I really don't want Baertschi to be sent down, but he's been doing everything possible this preseason to change my mind. I don't know what will happen, but I'd understand if they sent him down to tell him that a half effort isn't ok and to reward a guy like Reinhart or Knight who both have worked their ass off all preseason.

Will Sven Baertschi be part of the 23-man cast?
“Whatever happens, happens,” he replied Wednesday, post-game. “If they decide to send me down, if they decide to keep me, it’s up to them.
“I can’t influence it.
“I think I got some good opportunities here and there, but it is what it is.”

That's a good point. Cundari shouldn't have been waived following that logic unless they don't think that highly of him, which would be disappointing as I liked what I saw of his game last season.

I'm not sure how true to their word the Flames will be with the remaining spots. I bet Sieloff is sent down simply because its the easier move than dumping one of Smith or Butler.

They've said as much publicly, which means they've likely also told him privately. Continuing to tell him that his effort isn't where it needs to be isn't going to be effective if it hasn't worked already.

I haven't seen Sven play once this year, but if he's not ready for the NHL yet, I don't see how keeping him up, regardless of our long term plans for vets can be good for his development.

People do need to remeber that just because we've started a rebuild, doesn't me we have a bunch of NHL ready prospects to play, like say the Oilers did with Hall, RNH and Eberle. We still have to acquire those types of assets, and if the Flames don't play tones of youth this year, it will likely be because the youth we have wasn't ready to develop in the NHL.
