Promo Poster - Critique Please - New rendering post 63
Hey guys,
I am no promotional expert but have been asked to make up a poster for my retail location. Any advice on the working template below? The actual size will be 24" x 15". I am not sure if that will cause issues for me in regards to pixelation on the full size.
Anything I need to know before printing? I am new to this and want to make sure I am not wasting money.
Any advice is appreciated.
Flame away...

I think maybe a softer font to match the style of your pieces might be good. You have bubbley piece, rolling hills and greenery, and then rigid newspaper like font.
I dunno.

It looks almost like there is a black smoke coming off the clock. Looks strange
Disclaimer: Keep in mind, my idea of doing photoshop involves MS Paint, so I am likely the wrong person to ask.

I like the graphic, but serif fonts are so old looking for ad text.
I would recommend a slightly thicker sans-serif font, but that's just my opinion.

It has been shopped for sure. It is just a photo I did from my Iphone. I know Reg75 is going to have a heart attack when he sees this as well.

not a fan of the background picture personally. Its a nice photo but it kind of takes away from the clock.
Might be boring/simplistic, but I would just have iton a wall, maybe between some art or other clocks you designed implying that the home you put the clock in IS the extraordinary space. Just spit balling. I've always found elegance in the simplicity of clocks visually vs the complexity required to have them accurate.

I don't get it. Why would you put a clock in a field?
OK, sure, it's an extraordinary place, but it's not a extraordinary timepiece for that place. That place would never have a clock. So there is a disconnect between the messaging and the image.

A few places where it could be improved:
- You cut of the corner of the clock, not good. Hopefully it's a crop and you can fix that.
- HDR is overcooked... in particular, the radioactive green grass beside the clock pulls attention away from the clock. The magenta area in the upper left corner is also a distraction.
- It looks like there's been a blue grain applied to the clock but with the holes and hands masked off. If I'm correct in that being a photoshop effect and not an actual feature of the clock then I would remove the grain from the entire clock. Or maybe just not use the effect at all.
- Having the clock at an angle is okay, but I would have the closer end at the side and have it lead you into the frame.
- I'll echo the recommendation for a thicker, simpler font.

There should be an oil derrick in the background too.

Great feedback, please keep it coming. The clocks are in the fields as part of a greater campaign I am putting together showing the clocks/other work I have done in cool natural environments. I understand that they would never be in a field but to have them on a wall in a kitchen, I cannot get a photo the emphasizes the clock without being lost in the overall room. It is a product size issue. With this style I can get a close up shot of the clock and a great expanse behind it. That is my thought pattern.
Re: Fonts - I am not familiar enough with fonts without choosing at random. Any suggestions other than the ones mentioned.

As for fonts and such, maybe fire a PM to TorqueDog, he was great at helping me out.

I know nothing about graphic design, but I do like the clock. Are you going to be displaying clocks at your retail location or is it just a sign and then people custom order them?
Personally, it seems like something where an example or two for people to look at would be much more powerful than a poster.

Eurostile is a popular sans-serif font in the eclectic kitch realm:
