Would've loved to see the EDM/VAN game last night end up like this after the Canucks decided to spend all night injuring guys. You'd have needed an army of hairdressers to repair the damage.

If Kessel fought Scott, he wouldn't be a "man", he would be dead.

Has someone here said Kessel should have fought? A ton of better ways to avoid that fight than two-hand slashing Scott is all. Especially the second time when he was in an altercation with someone else. It was unnecessary as much as Scott going after Kessel was.
Edit: Someone did say Kessel should have fought, ha. His linemates never would ever allow that to happen if they wanted to stay Leafs but maybe he should have made the appearance a bit better than tapping Scott on the shoulder and running away slashing him after Scott drops the gloves.

Or even if he survived unscathed, he would probably be subject to a team suspension of 5 games for being an idiot.

I've grown so tired of all the Bruce Dowbiggin/Damian Cox types that are so sickened and outraged by this type of thing. Settle down. You ever watch a game from the 70's or early 80's?
It's hockey. These kinds of things happen. If it took place every night in every rink in the league I might be concerned.

Wow - didn't realize the Kessel spear was a full 2 minutes into the melee...should have been plenty of time to cool off a bit and let common sense prevail, but he actually had to pick up his stick again to do it. No heat of the moment defence there.
Also, rewatching Kessel/Scott from the puckdrop, Kessel actually instigated it...clearly Scott said something that he reacted to - he reached out on Scott first, then realized who it was and started hacking his way out of there.
It's one thing to hack and slash if a goon is trying to do something non-consentual with you, but he basically challenged him and then tried to bring a stick to a fist fight.
I actually think his actions are far worse than Clarkson and deserving of at least 10 games. I'm sure there will be lots of factors that work in his favour (no prior history), but I think this should be punished more harshly than say hits to the head that happen in the fastest game on ice...

I would be happy if every single player left the bench just to leave the NHL in a pickle. Scott deserved to be jumped by every member of the Leafs. You don't go after a player like Kessel when your name is John Scott. Useless turd of a fighter taking up a roster spot for no reason other than to entertain the red necks who like fighting.

Good post, but I still wish John Scott had beaten the bejesus out of Raffi Torres in that Chicago-Vancouver series.

After watching that clip I think it's clear that Phil Kessel is the toughest man in professional tennis today.

You mean the ones where they didn't know what concussions were and how they could affect their quality of life?

That was DISGUSTING by Kessell. I hope he gets nailed for a huge chunk of games for that ridiculous display of two-handed stick swinging, especially the second one from behind.

The slashes were pretty vicious I guess, but there wasn't much in that spear. I'm going to say 1-2 games for Kessel.

I don't really even mind what Kessel did. What other recourse does a regular player have against the shaved apes of the league that are put on skates and masqueraded as hockey players?
Guys like John Scott are an embarrassment to the league. I like seeing fights, but when a guy is not capable of playing hockey at the NHL level, he shouldn't be wearing the uniform.

What an awesome game! Felt like 1994 again... While I don't like Scott going after kessel... I also don't like kessel poking the bea: he grabbed Scott and Scott immediately dropped the gloves. Kessel a reaction was to skate away and swing his stick at him - something else he shouldn't have done.
Kudos to Clarkson for jumping off the bench to help out his teammate who was being attacked by a giant. The whole team should have left the bench with him and the sabres should have done the same... If they did, Clarkson wouldn't get any suspension cause the league would not likely suspend 2 full line ups. Man, this makes me miss how great old time hockey was.
