Scott going after Kessel was garbage and I would applaud any Flames player coming off the bench to defend our superstar.

I would be happy if every single player left the bench just to leave the NHL in a pickle. Scott deserved to be jumped by every member of the Leafs. You don't go after a player like Kessel when your name is John Scott. Useless turd of a fighter taking up a roster spot for no reason other than to entertain the red necks who like fighting.

Maybe if it was a nobody vs. a nobody. But a championship game between Nadal, Djokovic, prime Federer, etc are 100x better then any regular season hockey game.

Would you guys shut the F up about tennis already? I enjoy the sport myself, but this isn't the thread to investigate spiteface's hypersensitivity to criticism of the sport.

Not much of a pickle. First player off gets 10 games, second off gets 5 and the team is fined a goodly sum of money. Tell me again why you think it is a good idea to screw your own team to engage in something that is considerably worse than what Scott did? And that, I might add, makes your argument incredibly hypocritical.

From what i have now read online, the fight before which saw the buffalo guy ko'd was a considerable mismatch in TO's favour (although there is some suggestion the buffalo guy was a willing participant).

I havent seen it myself, but if it was a huge mismatch that resulted in a Sabre being ko'd and had to be helped off the ice, it puts a different perpective on Scott Vs Kessel

Anyone else think we are going to hear a lot of this from the talking heads?

The TSN clip shows the immediate start of that fight, and it does appear Tropp was a willing participant. What caused that fight is not something we're aware of. The Leafs are trying to claim that Tropp actually started it, however. Regardless, it is clear that the Sabres wanted to send a message, which is why Scott came out for the next shift.

Incidentally, I just noticed in the box score that Kessel got a match penalty for deliberate attempt to injure.

Only 'til Cherry gets a say. He'll be the voice of reason and discuss the Clarkson suspension on his first night. He'll shame Scott and Kessel and everyone will grow and learn from it like every other Coach's Corner. He'll even be able to discuss the good ol' Canadian Leaf Bernier duking it out with Miller and getting the best of him and everyone will be happy.

The people who dislike fighting in hockey grind my gears immensely. Don't like it, don't watch. It's part of the game. If a fight breaks out, do as Don Cherry says and go have a nice cup of tea and turn the TV off. Had to get that off my chest. As for what happened, what Scott did was stupid, but Kessel should have been a man and fought, even if he knew he would lose.

Kessel wouldn't have been a "man" if he fought Scott he would have been straight up stupid.

Scott is a tough guy who is twice his size, he's one of the dudes in the league who basically gets a cheque as compensation for brain damage and the bouts of post-concussion/depression he'll be dealing with in 10 years.

If you watch the beginning of the link that was posted earlier it shows the fight. The guy KO'd fell and hit his head on the ice from what I could see.

Yeah, if I'm Kessel I don't even try to fight that giant. During preseason especially.

Why are you baiting him, he was on topic. I don't see you posting anything on topic in your comment. Lets stick to the "Melee between Toronto and Buffalo" which is why most of us came into the thread.

Maybe I'm in the minority but IMO Kessel should get 4-5 games for the slash and spear. He's using his stick as a weapon there and that kind of stick swinging is as ugly a play as you will see in hockey. Skate away if you don't want to fight but don't swing at the guy with your stick.

This reminds me of a guy who said I wouldn't be a man (although we were like 8, admittedly) unless I pee'd on this electric fence. He didn't look manly so manly after I called him on it, nor do I think you'd qualify Kessel as 'manly', looking like a bloody pile of human.
