If we are dependent on new growth to pay for past growth (as you posit, my view is that new growth doesn't pay for itself so it can't pay for past growth), then we would effectively be running a pyramid. Which means that of course we'd be in trouble if investment dries up.

I'm not sure how this would improve traffic on Deerfoot, but it's worth a try.

While I think that's part of the problem, traffic tends to clear right after Mcknight, so it just seems like something needs to be done differently at that interchange. I don't know what, but something

I recommend the Centre Street LRT.

There is no reason for a Freeway without any lights to slow down from 100km/h to 10-20 km/h during the afternoon rush from McKnight all the way down to Glenmore.

Nothing. It's a provincially-controlled/managed highway.

One thing they need to do is add another lane between McKnight and 64th, like they did with southbound Deerfoot between 64th and McKnight. The southbound lanes flow so much better now.

I thought I saw that the city was taking it over within the city limits. (I have no idea where I saw/heard this)

The Province wants to give it to the City. The City has stated it does not want that because it's a massive liability in terms of operating and capital costs.

So the province just wants the City to eat whatever the cost of Deerfoot trail is?
Can't see why we haven't jumped all over that offer...

If the city were to take over Deerfoot, would we be allowed to toll it?

I would certainly hope so. There's no way it could be covered properly based on municipal taxes alone with all the inter-city/provincial traffic it handles.

I wonder how many times you've had to answer that question in this and other threads.
It makes me think that maybe the City might want to buy back the Deerfoot just so that they have some control over the answer to the question.

If the city's taking Deerfoot back, the province better pay the city, not the city pay the province.

Wouldnt the City have to take it on after Stoney Trail is completed as it is essentially a city road with likely 90%+ of the traffic inner-Calgary only currently without Stoney finished
I wonder if it would make sense to accept the deal only if certain improvements are made to it.
