Nice to hear that Galiardi has shown some positives on his move to center. Hopefully that does turn out well though that would bring up some more interesting questions in terms of our lineup.

At the game I thought the Hudler/Barstchi/Galiardi line was pretty good. Jooris also stood out in the third with hustle. Didn't really see much out of the rest of the forward crew.
Berra was better then Ramo for sure.
Wideman had a good offensive night. Kulak looked out of his element. Would have thought Kanzig would play meaner.

Missed the game, but just watched the highlights. Sven's dangle was awesome on the tying goal. His feed to Hudler who then passed to Wideman for a nice snipe was great as well.
Horak's shootout goal was a thing of beauty and Berra's stretch armstrong save on the first shooter was awesome too.
Hockey's back!

Completely agree. And i'll add that half ~1/2 of this years cap hit will be gone (for the trade partner)...making these guys even more attractive.

Regulars from last year.. Sven, Brodie, Backlund. 3 "young" guys. And now we've got room for one or two more? Not nearly enough space made, for a team in a rebuild phase. We should have 4-6 up front alone.
|
Next year we will. But there is no good reason to rush things. This year there will be a revolving door of tryouts and samplings. Post deadline, there will be some spots opened up. Next year the youth movement will begin in full force. Rushing things can be hugely detrimental.
And there will be more than 3 young guys to start the season.

Lol the way the Oilers celebrated their goals felt like I was watching a playoff game. The Flame players celebrated like it really didn't matter.

Whoever was acting Captain should seriously be considered for the C full time. Someone was saying all the right things and the team responded.

Then, once he got out on the ice, he discovered that his crease was kind of oddly shaped.
“It’s different,” said Berra. “In Europe it’s round. Here, it’s different.”
|
Quote:
“It was really a tough start,” said Berra. “First shot, then rebound goal. But I kept focus and everything” — here he tapped his forehead — “and I knew it was going to be a long game.”
|
Quote:
“I like shootouts,” said Berra. “It was nice, but I was really lucky one or two times.” (As the netminder explained his solid night of work, teammates sauntered past, merrily referring to the newcomer as Yogi.)

“Kind of an unlucky start there,” said Ramo. “Then a lot of scrambling in front of the net, bounces here and there and goals. But, overall, I still felt pretty good there. It’s a pre-season game. So you have to find your game in these ones, because when the pre-season is over, there’s no time for that. I was still happy with the things that happened inside the game. Now the first one is done.
“I got scored on a couple times, but the team bounced back in the end and we grinded a win.”

I was at the game last night so I'll share some of my thoughts.
Galiardi- I think he's going to be a fan favorite. Works his ass off, was constantly talking to guys and is just a real good player. Thought he looked good at center too.
Jooris - Thought he looked real good in the prospects game I watched and he was real good tonight too. Seems like a smart player. Seemed to always be on the puck and picked up two goals. Going to be interesting to see how he does in Abby this season.
Baertschi- Much better effort from him when compared to the prospect tourney. That first line looked real good and he had some nice dangles.
Ramo- Not the best game from him. Rebound control wasn't great at times. Hopefully he'll be better.
Berra- Big guy and he covers the net. Made some great saves and I thought he looked good. Besides the wraparound goal he seemed to get side to side pretty quickly. Liked what I saw from him.
Kulak - Looked overwhelmed most of the game. Really struggled throughout the game. Must have been on for 3-4 goals against.
Kanzig - Big. Besides his size I didn't really notice him which is what you want from a defensive guy. Looking forward to tracking his progress this season. Would be nice to see a guy his size pan out for the flames.
Overall a bit disappointed in the lack of emotion from both teams. Was expecting a bit more especially with the lineup the flames sent. Always nice to win in Edmonton preseason or not.

After watching the highlights again it looked like Hanowski tipped Streets shot for the first goal. Hoping the young guys keep up the energy and show well the rest of the preseason and make the decisions really tough on the flames brass.
