Always and forever one of my all time favourite bands! Happy Birthday Freddie!

Queen's performance at Live Aid, still one of my favourites.

Saw the stage production, We Will Rock You - what an awesome show.

He would have been 67 today.

Rovio has a tribute as well:

When I was a kid I used to think Tim Curry from the Rocky Horror Picture Show was Freddy Mercury. Now that I think about it, he could have playe that role perfectly.

Cohen would have done a great job. Wouldn't we all want to see the crazy parties Freddie had in Germany and New Orleans? I think Freddie would have wanted that part of his life kept private.

At around the same time Queen gained a reputation for holding the most extravagant parties. Was this just hype or did they really happen? I say this because people like Brian and John particularly seem very reserved and intellectual and not the sort to really enjoy that kind of thing...

Those extravagant parties really did happen, but a little mythology has crept in over the years. The most notorious Queen party was in New Orleans in 1978. This is the party in which there were supposedly dwarves carrying trays of cocaine on their heads. Unfortunately, I’ve been told by several reliable sources that there were no dwarves with cocaine… The former head of EMI Records Bob Mercer (who is sadly no longer with us) shared some wonderful anecdotes about that night. I’m sure Brian May and John Deacon thoroughly enjoyed themselves, as well. It’s just that Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor were the more visible party animals. I was told about lesbian sex shows in Paris and a party in a brothel in Germany in which all the working girls were pre-paid. I have no idea who did what and with whom, but I was assured “that only the single members of the touring party attended”.

[QUOTE=SoulOfTheFlame;3269414]How has no one posted this song yet? The best Queen Song, and Top Gear's best driving song ever:

On my motorcycle, gunning down a miraculously empty road, twists and turns, elevation and speed changes, smashing through the gears and winding the throttle on and off with this song blaring through my iPod.

Without question the best motorcycle moment I've ever had and this song brings it all back every time. It's exactly what music is supposed to do. Love Queen, Love Freddie.

Happy Birthday.

Bohemian Rhapsody is quite possibly the greatest song ever made. Well, at least the most memorable. R.I.P Freddie.

That's really a shame. Cohen would have amazed as Mercury.

I seriously don't understand how would anyone think that? Just because he has some facial resemblance? Cohen is not a good actor. Ali and Borat characters were kinda fresh and entertaining. Bruno was disgusting. The Dictator was the first real movie, not a mocumentary, and it sucked really bad. Not only he can't act well, his good taste is also questionable.

Actually, I think he is a good actor, a wonderful one and would have really gotten into Mercury and done a great job. He's created great comedic characters in the past that he totally absorbs himself with and done a suburb job on Sweeny Tood. Haven't seen Les Misérables but I've heard he was good in it too.

Great comedic actors tend to be great actors overall too.

I disagree. Very smart and educated guy, for sure, but not a good actor. He was very funny as Borat, yes, but more as a comedian than as an actor. He is not even trained as an actor.

Of course not, lets not compare actors to doctors ever again now, okay?

I'm a huge movie geek and get way too fanboyish over some actors but don't make that suggestion again. You need an education to be a doctor you don't need it to be a great actor.

There are many brilliant actors who had no formal training, Johnny Depp, Phillip Seymour-Hoffman, Sean Penn etc etc (it's a big list)

There are zero brilliant Doctors who had no education.

We are hijacking a good thread, of course... Seymour-Hoffman is a great actor and he was seriously trained, both academically and individually. I can argue further but it's not that improtant.

A profession is a profession is a profession. Any profession. One needs solid professional training to be great at it.

Not in all professions, not true.

Acting is one of those. Some broadcasters have no formal training, some artists, some photographers etc.

To be fair we know little about the school system in Gallifrey.

Well, perhaps it is less obvious in abstract and artistic professions than it is in technical or craftsmanship professions. There is also that famous theory that says doing something for 10,000 hours would make you a professional in that something no matter the training. But it doesn't apply to Cohen either, as he has not been acting that long.

Look at it from another angle: lying is acting in a sense, because you have to make someone else believe in what you're saying when you know it's not true. When it gets you off the hook, you get some kinda benefit (just like actors), meaning that your acting was good. Does that make you a great actor? No. It just means that you're able to pull it off that time.

He's been acting since he went to College (theater), about 20 years ago.
