Queen was such a great band, and Freddie Mercury one of the great vocalists of all time.

(EDIT: Video possibly NSFW)

Shouldn't this be in the "Happy Deathday, Freddie Mercury" thread?

And best lead vocalist of all time - have yet to hear a close rival.

Bono at his prime could give Freddy a run for his money.

No I'm not. Freddy had great range but Bono was no slouch either. Jon Anderson is the other one comes to mind, they are all great at the upper end. Freddy was better at the lower end for sure.

See post #15, and tell me Bono can do anything like that.

Sorry, not even close. And when you factor in showmanship, he leaves them all in the dust.

I just finished reading his biography (Mercury) by Lesley-Ann Jones over the weekend. I've always wished that I appreciated Queen more when Freddie was alive, because he was simply amazing.

Sacha Baron Cohen quits Freddie Mercury film

Borat star has bowed out of forthcoming biopic over creative differences with Queen singer's former bandmates, reports say

http://www.theguardian.com/film/2013...freddie-mercur

The Borat star apparently walked after his vision of a racy treatment depicting Mercury's famously salacious lifestyle was at odds with the more family-friendly approach desired by the singer's erstwhile bandmates.

yea his and queens music have been such a huge influence on me growing up!
One of my first memories is hearing them play (or echo) up the valley to our campground in frejus, south france - even tho I was a 5 year old I remember hammer to fall and seven seas of rye starting. Shame I had a kids attention span and don't remember anything else!

The greatest. With that voice and sense of nuance and phrasing he could've done any genre of music.

I'm ancient enough to remember the release of their first album. What surprised me was how many otherwise "macho" guys took to their music so quickly. My first thought was oh boy, what are they going to think of this guy, that he's some "faggy" opera dude?

You showed 'em all Freddie!

I would have rather seen a hologram of Freddie then Tupac.

The guy was probably the best pure musical singing talent in rock and roll.

I'm going to have to side with Cohen on this one. I don't think a movie that truly depicts Mercury can end up being family viewing. But perhaps I'm just fed up with the dumbing down of everything.

One of the greatest rock-bands of all times. One of the most sophisticated rock bands of all times, both musically and lyrically. One of my four most favourite rock bands growing up. Still have and enjoy all of their albums.

P.S. I don't like biopic movies. They are usually garbage. Plus, I just can't think of S.B.Cohen's portraying Mercury after his Bruno movie ...

I was talking to a girl at x-fest this weekend that had a tattoo of Freddy Mercury on her forearm.
