I don't really want him playing another 70 games even if he's lights out. We need to move on...

Why? Where is the heir apparent?

Maybe not even that long, but yes...I agree.
So my question to Polak and others who believe similarly, why exactly do the Flames need to move on from Kiprusoff? What's the downside in having him continue to be your starter at this point if he so desires?

In addition to the Burke stuff, Miikka Kiprusoff has apparently returned to Calgary, so an official retirement may come soon, too.

For me its that Gillies is 5 years away from being a full time starter. I don't see Kipper going another 4 years. Might as well see if Ramo/Berra can be the stop gap. If they can't, the flames will go out and find someone who can.

Flames will lose even if he plays. If we are all prepared to see Flames be a losing team this season I'd rather see them Flames lose games 4-2 versus 12-2.
Swiss Cheese and Hari-Kari are not confidence inspiring, I base that on 29 other teams taking a pass on them.

Badger, In 2003 we traded for an unknown third string goalie nobody else seemed to want. Did you also have derogatory nickname for him before he even played one game for the flames? Like Kipper SOFT?

Kipper drove all fish species to extinction in Finland and now has nothing to do probably except sitting around in his goalie equipment and skating around alone on some frozen lake.

While I can't comment on his contract situation or if he's hanging up the skates, he does want his son to continue to go to school in Calgary. He genuinely enjoys being a Calgarian and being part of the community.

Neither him or his son live in Calgary - they live in Airdrie.

Exactly. Not to mention his obvious lack of professionalism regarding fitness and smoking. Or the .882 save % and 3.44 GAA last season. He was a great goalie back in the day but we won't miss a player that puts up those kinds of stats.

Possibly only draft position, what's the possible point difference between Kipper taking the majority of starts and one of the others? What the the point swing between 6th and 1st?
The flip side is what benefit is there for Kipper to mentor a young goalie? Is it worth more than the possible shift in draft position?
Would Kipper be happy with 40 games if that's what they wanted to do?
The other possible upside is if one of the other goalies does step up, then you have the luxury of having a tradeable asset if/when Gillies does step in.
