Or, it's September, and his kid is (kids are?) back in school...

I wasn't joking when I said I saw him on Monday. He does look in amazing shape.

Hopefully he agreed to come back for a more transitional 1A/1B season.
I don't really want him playing another 70 games even if he's lights out. We need to move on...

Or (my guess), Flames are waiting to see if Kippper will play this season.
If he decides to play, the Flames will trade Kipper to one of the teams on a provided list.

Feaster has said (not verbatim, but close) "If we ask him now, he'll say he's retired, so we're giving him time"
Kipper has been quoted as saying he's retired
Flames have been quoted as being aware of his position, but wanting to give him more time to make sure.
I don't get how the Flames are frustrated in this sense, unless they desperately want him back.

This would be the best thing possible for the Flames. I love Kipper, and I mean I think he's one of the best ever and probably my favourite goalie of all time but I don't want to see him play on the Flames this year. This team needs to move on and if they can get something for him then great, if not just let it go

So does Kipper still own a house in Calgary then? I assume he does, unless he is renting one or something. Strange that he came back to Calgary all of a sudden with training camp on the horizon, which means he might actually be planning on coming back.

He's back because his kids are still attending school here. I believe this has been known since the end of last season when he said he'd be back here for that purpose.

Yes he still has his house (my wifes family are his neighbors) in De Winton and yes his kids are in school here. I also know that his wife has experienced a fair bit of health issues stemming from the birth of there last son so that also maybe playing a large amount onto what his decison will be....time will tell but I have also heard he is in great shape!

I think you are reading far too much into the situation and I am amazed at some of the reactions on here.
As I see it...
Kipper plans on retiring (has made the decision in his mind)
The Flames understand this but, since they don't need to get the paper work in yet, and since it has no impact until training camp, they are giving him time to think it through.
There are lots of examples of guys that 'decide' to retire in May, only to get the itch again in September.
While it is unlikely, it costs the Flames nothing to wait and see if he changes his mind.
Meanwhile, they carry on under the assumption that he won't change his mind. If he does - great. If not, so be it.
To attempt to add drama to that scenario just seems completely pointless to me.

Yeah it's not that crazy that he might genuinely enjoy Calgary and is staying for his kids?

If he is super fit, and is in Calgary anyway, might as well play one more season if he does not mind the travel. Heck, just give him the home games. I know that's crazy.
Flames will lose even if he plays. If we are all prepared to see Flames be a losing team this season I'd rather see them Flames lose games 4-2 versus 12-2.
Swiss Cheese and Hari-Kari are not confidence inspiring, I base that on 29 other teams taking a pass on them.

I too wouldn't mind seeing Kipper back for another year, but I do think you might be selling Ramo a bit short. He wasn't really "passed on" on 29 other teams, we acquired him in a trade from Montreal and were able to convince him to come back to the NHL. He was an attractive enough asset that even after he left the Lightning and signed a 2 year deal in the KHL, Montreal choose to trade for his rights knowing he was under contract in Russia.
For all we know 1 or 2 or 10 other teams asked about him when he was Lightning property, Hab's property or even since he's been our property. I also think he's now shown he can consistently be a top goalie in the 2nd best league in the world, and while that pedigree didn't help Cervenka, I tend to have a bit more confidence in Ramo being able to translate his success to the NHL.
I will agree with you in regards to Berra though, I don't see that guy making the NHL ever, let alone this season.

To make the financial aspect to him more attractive, what if we sign him to another year.. say 1 yr.. 5 million, with a 4 million signing bonus due, July 2nd 2014?
Then he retires in August? He'll make 5.5million over the 13-14 season, and will have made a wage befit to his 2011-2012 performance.

I don't see why the flames would have to do that? They payed him good money, or one can say upfront money, in his last deal.

And Kippy doesn't have to play. It's to further attract him to another year, where the Flames can afford him in the cap.

If he does not want to honour the contract because of money ( i don't think that is it at all) then he can retire for all i care. AND AGAIN I DON'T THINK ITS ABOUT MONEY.
Giving him a $ 4 million bonus, on a $5 million contract for another year, just puts him in the same place next year. Do i play for $1 million?

LOL relax. Neither you or I know his reasons why he's not returning. My idea was a suggestion, that would have validity to many, and potentially appease a want of his.
