I don't know about that. Those purchases don't just pay for themselves, so unless Tottenham already had a massive war chest set aside they're going to need to move Bale to pay for them. Madrid don't need to buy bale, but Tottenham may very well need to sell him.

I think I read somewhere that with the players they've already sold, TV revenue, naming rights, etc., they're actually not very far in the red with regards to the players they've bought and are expected to make up the difference and more in ticket sales.

If Bale doesn't go, how do Spurs pay the recent transfer fees? Their cash reserves are under £20m and if you add that to transfer fees paid to Spurs they might have £40m. How much does that cover and what does it leave for operating expenses?
Real might have the last laugh here.

The answer is obvious. Sell to United.

They're bringing in that much more from those streams this year than they did last year? I find that hard to believe.

A good read .....
Quote:
Transfer deadline day: The anatomy of a modern-day deal.
The world of football transfers is mysterious and murky, rotten and ruthless.
Millionaire players, demanding managers, extravagant owners and wily agents all make up the cast of the game's summer soap opera.
Fans find it fascinating and frustrating but are often left angered and confused by the veil of mistruths and rumour that drive the world of transfers.
This summer has been a case in point. It has been the summer of the saga, the summer of Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas.
More than ever it has been a battle for public good will and a fight for hearts and minds, as each camp pushes their agenda in search of the deal that suits them. Some players and agents stay quiet. Others brief constantly. And some just wait for the right moment to make their move.
The days of managers exchanging brown envelopes at motorway service stations have gone. But the modern-day Premier League transfer is a highly complicated game of move and counter-move, played by clubs and agents. All parties have their own tactics to shape the way the public view a situation, all have their own agendas, all want the result that is best for them as the fans battle to search for the facts.
Here we attempt to unpick the secrets behind the transfer window and explain how and why things happen the way they do.

tv money this year is going up for everyone
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/foo...e-winners.html
Quote:
The league champions next season can expect to earn close to £100 million in broadcast earnings while the bottom club can expect their earnings to go up from £39.8 million, which Queens Park Rangers picked up this season, to around £63 million.

60m is what most people suggest United earned last year for tv money,
so that's an extra 20-30m
their shirt sponsor moving to HP this year bumped up from 10m to 19m
they have made something around 26m in player sales so far
they would take a loss this year, but the owners are rich (Joe Lewis net wealth is 4.2b) so they are not in a vulnerable position

Then why do we keep hearing about the stadium being delayed until they secure funding?

last year's TV revenue:
Place = finishing position in the table. Live = live games on Sky/ESPN combined.
BBC = games on Match of the Day. N.Live = games shown ‘near live’.
Note: Facility fees increase with more live TV games; merit payments grow in increments of £755,881 per place from 20th to 1st.
lots of info here: http://www.sportingintelligence.com/...012-13-210501/
key points:
- the relegated clubs in England get more TV money than the German champion
- relegated clubs from the past few years receive parachute payments
- EPL is the "fairest" top league when it comes to splitting the money - ratio between 1st and 20th team was 1 to 1.53 last season. In Germany it's 1 to 2, in Italy it's 1 to 10 and in Spain it's 1 to 14 because Barcelona and Real negotiate their own deals. I suspect this is part of the reason why smaller clubs in Spain can't really survive financially
- the new deal means that the champion will get around 100m, 20th placed club around 60m (= what the champion earned last season)

also as a few writers had pointed out earlier this year
Spurs net transfer spend from 2000 to 2008 averaged around 20m per season
since 2009 it's been http://www.transferleague.co.uk/prem...transfers.html
2009 profit 1m
2010 spend 17.5m
2011 profit 27m
2012 profit 1.3m
so where they would usually have had a net spend of 70-80m they made a profit of 11.8m
assuming the money has been there for a 20m a year transfer budget they had 91.8m available that wasn't spend the last few years
it could have been saving money for the stadium (some say it was Levy not trusting Harry to spend) but either way, the money is there with or without the Bale sale

there's been nothing about it being delayed by lack of funding, the delay was looking in to the Olympic Stadium
they want a large portion of the stadium funded by a sponsor, and the rest of it covered by the government for the other additions they are making (shops, new homes, etc.)

Nice to see Palace get a win... even better to see the facist move a little closer to unemployment.

But they have less than 20m in hand. Anything over that would have to come from sales or investment in the club.

This is what gets me both from an Arsenal and professional point of view. The Council and GLA should not be subsidizing a private venture like this, especially, when they are requesting almost no contributions in the Section 106 agreement.

Your quote on #207
Quote:
The new stadium can only go ahead when £350m funding is secured. To do that, the club need to sell the naming rights. “We don’t have that in place and that’s an integral part of the financing,” says Mills. “Once we get that, it’ll open up the rest of the funding.”
With Middle East organisations keen to attach their names to British sport, Levy has travelled to the region but all Mills is willing to says is: “There’s been some interest.”

that's not a delay, there's been nothing that completion in 2016 has been pushed back
the emirates took 36 months, as long as ground is broken early next year it could give 32 months to be ready for the 2016/2017 season, or 36 to be ready in 2016
as long as they don't hire that Aussie company that built Wembley it shouldn't be an issue
most people expect an official announcement/breaking ground ceremony at some point this fall

Agree to disagree but when I read that something can't go ahead until funding is secured it screams delay to me.
Personally, I thought they'd have jumped at the chance to get to hell away from their current location

I realise this thread runs another couple of pages and someone may have pointed this out already. All matches are originally scheduled for 3 pm on a Saturday. Then TV rights holders pick which matches they are going to broadcast. At this time - Sky was the only UK rightsholder.
Any fixtures Sky picked to broadcast would automatically move from the Saturday 3 pm slot as no matches are or have ever been permitted by the League to be broadcast at this time in the UK in case it effects attendances elsewhere.
Man U v Liverpool is ALWAYS going to be selected for broadcast in the UK - and Sky's premium slot and the element of the rights packages that carries the highest premium is for matches at Sunday at 4 pm. This match was never going ahead on Saturday at 3 pm irregardless of when Cantona was coming back.

On the Tottenham transfer outlay thing - Spurs have wiggle room. While cash reserves clearly aren't aligned with the financial outlay - in most instances transfer fees are paid out over a number of years.
There are two offers from Madrid - one with the money upfront (a lower offer), and a higher offer with payments spread out over a number of years.
It makes sense for Levy to take this to the wire, because if you for one moment believe Arsenal are after anything but a Ligue 2 free transfer, Tottenham could make it incredibly difficult for Arsenal to complete deals with RM before the window closes.
Some crazy nuts think Wenger is planning on buying 2/3 RM players.

I'm going to avoid Barnet Flame's post, as someone should look into how matches were scheduled back in 1995. A simple google search should do the trick.
Is the Liverpool/Manchester United match the only televised match on tomorrow? I can't seem to find the other two matches on any channel here in Calgary. Shaw customer.
