I heard the same thing from someone else who bought a DealFind for 1-888-Junk-Van
They had a couple hollow doors and some other, and the guy basically said 3 doors were 250 lbs and wouldn't take anything else

Yelp and 411.ca seem to echo this 888-Junk-Van shennaniganery.

I bought a voucher through Living Social for $35 for 250 lbs of junk removal and was told by this company's operator when I called to book the appointment that anything over that weight would be charged to my credit card. After this guy had loaded everything he insisted the weight was double what I had estimated and demanded payment in cash or cheque and when I said the operator told me it would be charged to my visa he said she was an {expletive}that they fired and as the owner of the company he had the prerogative to demand cash payment for this job.
|
Quote:
am willing to pay for the weight of my items but "Sharif" informed that their scale on the truck doesn't take account into the leveling of the items (yearh right) so he gave us an estimate of 550lbs when I knew mine was less than 300lbs.
|
Quote:
Was told our junk would be weighed at the dump and that we had double what we knew we had.... There was no scale on the truck and it was already loaded up with other peoples junk so they were clearly trying to get whatever they coould out of me
|
Seems their truck scale has been broken for over a year now.
Also an "F" BBB rating.

I have nothing to contribute to this thread but could you please keep us updated on your renovation projects. This sounds totally stalkerish but I am always amazed as your work and I would love to see what you would do with a house if you had free reign.

I am a cat owner, but that cat piss smell. Ugh. My kid is in Scouts. Went to the treasurer to hand in Scout Popcorn money. The piss smell hit me as soon as I set foot in the place. And it was tidy looking in there. By the sounds of this, the smell must have been equivalent or worse. Shame on the parents who left their kids there.

Yeah cat urine is very easy to notice. And it's a bitch to completely get rid of. Not sure how someone could miss a small amount, not to mention the amount that must have been in that house. Sounds like parents didn't do their due diligence, which is even more scary.

Unfortunately it was at the end of the conversation or otherwise I would have sent him walking earlier.

Thanks for the kind words. I am pretty stoked to get free reign on this place. Should be a lot of fun. I am currently working the downstairs bathroom. I am tight on budget for this so I cannot really go wild but I will do my best to make it interesting. It is kind of a personal challenge to see what I can create using limited cash. Lots of re-purposed materials I am thinking.
Most of our extra $$$ is being dumped into new furnace/hot water tank, new roof and all new windows.

I tried to get my phone going to video him dumping the bin into the alley but figured I didn't want to get beat up. He was a big dude and I am not as big as your average bear.
RE: the cat piss - I think I have got it now. The only holdout is around the furnace area. I have swept thrice and bleached scrubbed the concrete once but I just cannot get under everything. I will re-do everything next week when the new furnace gets installed. Should be good then.
If people are interested in my projects check out my twitter and instagram accounts as I have been doing regular progress updates. (@comodesigns)
That said I will be sure to pop a few photos on CP to share in this adventure.

If there's cat urine that was at the base of walls then it may have penetrated the studs behind or the subfloor. You can try usin something like Killz paint to seal affected areas prior to drywall or flooring.

Would steam cleaning around the furnace area help at all or would it make the piss smell worse??

I would absolutely never allow cats in a house, I love cats but they are outdoor animals and should be allowed to roam and hunt.
|
Aren't all animals technically outdoor animals? I was under the impression the city looks down on the act of letting your cat out beyond your own property. I checked out the city site and the regulations didn't seem to list anything specific to cats, so perhaps I'm wrong.

As much as my cat and I are at constant odds with each other, I think letting it out would only result in 3 possible outcomes:
1) dead, because it has never spent any appreciable time outside.
2) brings in some kind of fleas or some bugs.
3) brings in pregnant rodents to play with (yet not kill).

I am personally a big fan of when there are re-purposed materials that are done well. One of the nicest houses that I have ever been in had old farm equipment that had been re-purposed, so that an old engine block from a tractor was cleaned and made into a coffee table and the like. Every time I have ever attempted a creative project it looks like total crap so I just leave it to the pros.
This means I will have to get a twitter to look at pictures. Well #### son.

My friend lets his cat out and it brought a live chickadee into their basement suite. That's pretty much all the convincing I need to keep mine indoors.
Sorry to derail. I've seen some of Surferguy's work and it's pretty awesome, so I'm quite excited to see the transformation.

My cat spends probably 5-6 hours a day outside. He even makes attempts in -20 weather after snowstorms. Can't get enough of it. And he doesn't even have claws!
Mostly goes out and sits under a specific bush in the yard just to watch. Occasionally kills things outside but has never brought them in. But then again, he's pretty much the best cat ever.
