Honorable mention to lutefisk. I tried it at a family reunion and I just couldn't get past the smell. The taste wasn't what I expected either.

Speaking of Chinese food: Chou dofu, 臭豆腐, literally "Stinky tofu."

It's sold at stands at night markets, it's fried, and it smells exactly like diarrheal ass-sweat that's been left to ferment on a pair of underpants in a gym bag.

But, it's a local 'delicacy' so the Bai-ren had to eat it. God-damn-awful.

Significantly worse in every conceivable way than the balut I had in Manila. I'd eat balut again, I will cut off my own lips before I eat chou dofu again.

Oh, and gaoliang, 高粱酒: fermented sorghum liquor. It manages somehow to combine all of the worst qualities of bad gin with all of the worst qualities of cheap vodka and also brings the "make you want to gag" aspect of really awful tequila to the party. Then it tops it off by producing a savage, angry, tree-climbing drunk and a blistering hangover that lives inside your eyeballs.

All you guys criticizing baijiu (fermented from sorghum in most parts of the country, and of which I think gaoliang is one type) have obviously never had high quality stuff. If you drink crappy, low quality baijiu it is bad, but the high quality stuff is not at all like that description. It's smooth and easy to drink, even at 55%. Not to mention it is pretty much the best drink for pairing with Chinese dining and goes with a huge range of flavours.

You know what? I am starting to think that real Chinese food misses a whole lot more than it hits. Lotus root stew is another example...
What? Lotus root stew is delish!!

I've given my milk a quick sniff whenever I open the carton ever since.
Me too and on top of that I throw my milk out a day or two before expiry just because I never want to experience that again.

Is vegemite similar to marmite? I tried that in when I lived in Australia. Its definitely an acquired taste, one that I didn't acquire!

Cesar Salad.

Yeah I'm the tiny minority who can't stand the smell of that cheese; revolting.

Feta and Parmesan smell like fresh vomit to me. I wont eat them.

I also can't eat cilantro. Everyone else seems to love it.

You sad silly little man.............I found Vegemite tastes like a "waterered down" version. It is inferior version of Marmite, kind of like "lite beer".

My wife is Japanese and I tried this. It is like rotten soy beans in snot sauce. One bite and that was it for me. Oddly enough my kids like it. I think you have to be Japanese to like this stuff.

I am baffled at people who don't like cilantro. It's delicious and adds a wonderful taste to pretty much any sort of dip.

I was dating a Serbian guy in University and I went to his house in Toronto for dinner and his mother made some stuff that was fairly disgusting, one of the things being what they called kajmak, (I think?) which was some kind of fermented milk in minced meat. Yuck.

Yeah, it's weird. My niece has loved it since day 1.

It's supposed to have a lot of health benefits though.

Kajmak is awesome. It's like a butter/cream.

A lot of people have it with meat called ćevapi or ćevapčići, which can be minced pork, lamb or beef (often a mixture of all), unless you are in Bosnia where pork is used less.

Maybe you had some bad stuff here in North America.

An obvious one, but since no one has said it yet, how about moldy bread? Ever end up eating a loaf of bread, bagels, or buns that have a few days left until their expiry date? Then when you take a few bites you can just tell something is wrong with it. But why would you ever expect mold to accumulate on the bread already? It's even worse with bagels when you can't really tell if it's gone moldy without eating it first. There is very little that pisses me off more than milk or bread going bad before the expiry date. Stores should offer returns for those type of products you can prove have gone bad before their supposed expiry date, as it sucks wasting a bunch of food that should still be good by all accounts.
