Default Thank you find my iphone APP!

So about a week ago my S4 stopped charging and I went back to my iphone 4s..so today I'm doing a job for someone I've done work for before with no problems...until today.

So me and my brother are working alone in a house that's occupied. We sit for lunch at the home and I use my phone to talk to my insurance, go back inside and place my phone on their kitchen counter because I hate having my phone in my pocket while working.

Another hour passes by and his daughter comes home, so now it is just us 3 in the house. I go to get my phone to use it and it's missing. My first thought is I probably put it somewhere and I don't remember but I knew with 100% certainty that it was in the home because I didn't leave anywhere after talking to my insurance.

I called my phone and couldn't hear it at all but it was ringing. She was downstairs at this time and she went out about half an hour later only to return about an hour later. At first I didn't suspect her because I honestly did not think someone would steal from someone that is working in their house. It's usually the workers that steal from the homes they're working in no? but anyways after I kept calling and couldn't even hear a whimpering vibration I knew something was up but couldn't prove it so I just played stupid and said I was missing my phone when her father came home hoping she'd come to her senses. I told them if it shows up please just put it on the counter for tomorrow.

I've always heard about the find my iphone APP but thought I was SOL because I didn't have it downloaded on my phone. Well a friend informed me that I could download it onto another phone using my Apple ID and I'd be able to trace it.

So I did, and it led me to an acreage along 16th ave close to Chestermere so I went there and whose car is parked up front? Yep, hers but it's 1:30 AM and I'm not about to confront her especially when I still have work to do for her father and he's a guy I actually like.

So the plan is to let her dad know tomorrow and for him to get my phone back. I don't want to involve the police, I just want my phone back so once again, thank you find my iphone APP!

/cool story bro

It's also great when you lose it in the house, it will sound a noise even if you left it on vibrate. Helped me find it a bunch of times, including in a snowbank once.

Google just announced an app that will let you track an Android phone. There are third party solutions but this looks like it'll work great.

Yeah, anytime I get asked about it, I recommend that app. It's been used to very good effect several times.

There's an app called Plan B which basically is for people who've lost their phone and want to trace it/set off alarm. Otherwise there's preventive apps like Cerberus which can do all of the above plus remote lock and wipe.

But still good to hear Google is putting something else out there.

A good friend of mine in Shanghai had his iPhone 4s taken by a girl who lived elsewhere in his apartment complex. He ended up finding it because she was foolish enough to start taking typically Asian-girl pictures of herself (looking as cute as possible with 2 fingers up) which uploaded to the cloud. Unfortunately, by the time he got it back she'd already taken it out to have it made girly cute with customized buttons. The worst part of it is that he lives in a complex with rents well over $2,000/month and when he arrived at her door with security she was standing there with her own iPhone5 as well.

Hope everything goes well for you in getting your phone back from the family.

Also,

Not sure if this is the best, or worst post of the year but this probably tops even calling Bingo a troll. Awesome.

A friend of mine lost her iPhone last weekend. Find My iPhone said it was off the Lingan docks. How it ended up there she doesn't know.

She searched for a few hours to no avail, but did use the app to send a message to the phone telling anyone to find it to contact her via her landline.

Long story short, a little while later she gets a phone call from a number she gets a phone call from a fisherman saying her found her phone.

That app tends to work well.

It works awesome. Between my wife's iPhone and the kids's iPods, we have used it several times now to locate lost devices. The last time my wife had left her phone in the local cinema. We called the theatre once we located it using the app, they found it within minutes, and my wife was able to pick it up the following morning.

Awesome. I had Lookout on my s2 and it sends its location to lookout.com just before it dies or if you ask it to locate your phone. Found mine on a Starbucks that way once
