i was just noticing how many of our prospects project to be chicaco blackhawk type core players and was wondering if you guys think that's the type of mould we are heading towards.
Is there any other comparisons towards other team moulds or would this team be the most accurate? Obviously no player is exactly the same and that's not what i am trying to say here.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Monahan = Toews Lite?? How so? Toews has second line center offense with excellent intangibles. So does that make Monahan a potential third liner? Hossa was a UFA and a big body. Baertschi is much more a Martin Havlat type winger.
People need to stop with these comparisions.
Toews is a 2nd line Center now?
And then you bash on comparisons by making a comparison?
Amusing post.

For those who are making a big deal because of the comparisons, I wasn't the one to compare them first. I've heard then before and just made a thread about it for just some interesting discussion. People are really getting butthurt cause its there first time hearing the Monahan toews comparison really?
Nothing against you, pretty sure everyone has seen it in the threads. I just don't like seeing this comparison get more attention. I'm not even sure why I hate the comparison so much TBH. I suppose it might be because I don't feel like any of our prospects are even close to being ready for that level of comparison until they prove that they are. I hate when people overvalue our prospects because we've had our hopes crushed from poor drafting so many times in the past.
Plus its Friday and I really need a beer or twelve.

I understand we are in a place right now as a fanbase to be in love with our prospects and the future. As an optimistic person I love the enthusiasm many of us have for these kids. It feels good to be gushing about legit prospects like Monahan, Sven, Gaudreau instead of Boyd, Howse and Nemisz. Having said that we are so far away from these kids being ready to lead the team.
As much a I hate to admit it we are the Oilers in 2010/2011. They had Hall, Eberle, Pajaarvi to be really excited about. They have since sucked for 3 straight years and still have a ton of question marks even though they have added Nuge, Yak, Schultz, and Klefbom since. Right now we have Gaudreau, Sven, and Monahan. We have a lot of decent depth prospects and guys like Jankowski, Poirier, Klimchuck, Gillies with high upside. Likely we are staring 2 more rough seasons in the face before we can be excited about turning this team into a potential juggernaut
The Flames' entire roster is one big black hole right now. They're drafting who they think is the best player available. They're focussing more on forwards than defence and goalies in the first round, as those positions are less predictable, and they've wasted a lot of 1st rounders on both goalies and defencemen in the past.

I feel bad for the OP. Seems like a good portion of CP has PMS at the same time of the month.
Take note of the calendar... I'm sure you'll be more careful in 30 days from now.
I don't mind the comparisons, for discussion purposes. Emphasis on the "lite".
If they are drafting like the Blackhawks, that's not a are bad team to emulate. Personally I feel that the 2010 team was stronger than the current one that won it. They made some ridiculous picks that turned into major contributors that year. Along with some shrewd trades, and some above average goaltending, they pretty much rolled over everybody.
I see him more of a Lee Stempniak type player myself with a slightly higher ceiling but would be very happy if he turned out to be like a healthy Havlat.
I think the Flames are just trying to make a good team that can with the cup. Whether that's Boston, L.A. or Chicago just depends on the year the comparison could be made. They do seem to be trying to get good character, smart players as well as some tough players though.
Not enough just to describe the team without a comparison to the cup champs?

My thinking is that a few of these draft picks are going to rack up about 1300 pts - 600 g easy peasy..........I think we will become the dominat power in this sector of the universe for years, and all our guys will take hometown discounts.

We need to be like Chicago in the sense that I feel Sven is going to need to be our third best forward in order for us to be legit contenders, basically our Hossa. I feel Monahan will be better so we're halfway there on the front end.
Overall though, like many others said, I think we're trying to emulate the Boston model. I don't think we'll end up getting a true elite center, but hopefully a Reinhart/Monahan combination can end up our Krejci/Bergeron one day. I have the feeling Gillies is going to be "the man", so if we can add one elite defender I think we'll have a pretty nice group. Maybe they go Ekblad next year and hope they get the second center the year after.

And there is the very real possibility that Gaudreau, Sven, and Monahan are more Gagner, Cogliano, and Nilsson then Hall, Eberle, and Paajarvi.
Even Chicago had Ruutu, Bell, and Calder as their next big thing before hitting paydirt with Toews, Keith, Sea Bass, and Kane.
Rebuilding sucks. It's nice to get excited about prospects, but it gets pretty old after a season or two. I can understand the Flames dumping the upcoming season for a shot at elite talent, but after that I would want them to be pushing hard for competitiveness the season after.
