Are you kidding me? I'm the one that busted him for being DESS. I'm well aware of his history. Fact remains that dogs can intimidate people.

haha no I ain't kidding you, it's hard enough keeping up with multiple posters, much less the people who busted them.
Agreed totally that dogs can intimidate people but he's just too over the top with it. The post about his daughter being deathly afraid, when it was obvious he's the one whose basically teaching her the fear (and not a healthy fear with I'm fine with) was the final straw for me on his lunacy. He tends to pretend this is a major issue for everyone as it is for him.
We all have our fears, we all have our irrational fears but we don't continually knock people over the head with them wondering why they aren't afraid of it as we are.

Ok, I can admit that he's neurotic, but at the same time, I can sympathize. I have a little girl, and if a dog ripped her face off, I'd go on a dog killing rampage. And if it was my own dog doing the mauling, I'd kill her to death. What does that mean? I'd kill her the quickest and soonest way possible, whether by strangulation, or tire iron beating, or by borrowing a gun from a nose hill american, or simple boot f'ing. Dogs aren't human, and if they attack humans in a situation that I deem kill-worthy, they should die. Even though they're so cute.

So to go back to your original question of why does Sliver take so much heat... that's why, you nailed it. Neurotic and I'd add comically over the top.
As for the rest of your post.... okay man, cool.

For me, it's not the fact that he doesn't like dogs, I get that. It's the fact that he stereotypes all dogs as shiddy dogs and worse, all owners as irresponsible, shiddy owners. Now he may deny or backtrack on that(doubt it) but he's such a dink about it pretty much every time, I end up having no sympathy for him.
I do however feel bad for his kids, as he will undoubtedly pass along his over the top fears and they won't stand a fighting chance of ever enjoying the happiness that a dog can bring, especially to a kid.

While I am flattered by all the attention, let's get back to the point of this thread. Pretty incredible (and disheartening) dog bite reports have jumped fourfold in just five years. I am also convinced a very small percentage of dog bites ever even get reported so I'm sure the actual number is much higher.

Of course you have dissentower equating the stereotyping of rotti owners to racism, and Zevo's irrational hypersensitivity towards dogs and dog owners in this thread, so it's pretty hard to take either side too seriously.

You know what's also risen in the last few years? People gnawing on other people's faces!
Dog's and how they act and trained are a representation of their owners just like parents and kids. Don't train or raise your kid or dog properly, there is a chance they might be a problem. There are a lot of $hitty dog owners, just like parents who don't think their kids do anything wrong. There are a lot of people out there who probably shouldn't own dogs and mistreat them and now you get a dog who is unstable and has mental issues and now has to be put down. Treat a dog like crap and it's natural instinct is to defend it self.
Dess was the one who wanted to exterminate all dogs right?

Bears. Exterminate all bears.
What if we bred some kind of bear-dog hybrid? These are the nightmares that confront SliDESS in the deep lonely hours of the dark.

Dog spray to save passers-by? I hope you saved some money to buy some wax for your cross...

There are still many instances of well trained and behaved dogs snapping and attacking someone. No matter how good of an owner you think you are or how well trained your dog is, they are still an animal with primal instincts. I'm not for banning entire breeds, but if you want to own a dog from a powerful breed (pitbull, german shepherd, rottweiler, etc) you should have to have a license and follow strict rules for ownership (always on a leash outdoors, mandatory social training, etc) or face a fine and/or have your dog taken away

The worst part of adults being scared of dogs is their transferring that fear to their children. Dogs can sense your fear and if you teach your children to be afraid of them, they are more succeptible to attack themselves. I see this every day when i walk my little Boston Terrier up in Saddletown. Astrid is a curious and friendly dog and wants to make friends with everyone; children, parents, other dogs, squirrels, cats, she doesn't care. But when people start tripping over themselves to get off the sidewalk to avoid her, it just makes her more curious about them. She will stretch out her leash as far as possible to get as close as possible to people who purposely avoid her. If people just walk by, she ignores them.

Could he not just throw some bell peppers at the dogs then? They are 100% capsicum...

Sliver we had a rational discussion about 2 or 3 months ago in this same thread about breed bans and dogs in general. Now you've got pepper spray by your front door to save passer by's from the roving dog gangs in Calgary? I mean I get you want to save people but the whole thought process of it all just seems... so... bizarre.
Also dog bites may be up in the last 5 years and I'm not saying it's not concerning, but when you look at the big picture:
http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/ABS/Docum...ver%20Time.pdf
They're substantially down from 25 years ago, or 15 years ago, or even 10 years ago all the while our population has almost doubled.
This thread is the most cyclical thread on the forums... this dog incident graph has been posted at least 2 or 3 times in here now.
