It's legal and sold at Wholesale Sports. They take down a bunch of info off you, though (name, DL number, etc.), when you buy it.

Just so I'm clear, you bought bear spray with the intend of using it to save a person from being attacked by a dog? How do you plan on spraying the dog and not the person exactly? It's not like bear spray is laser guided for accuracy. Do these dogs near your house often attack people?

It's not bear spray; it's dog spray.
They're aggressive, untrained, big dogs. They haven't attacked anybody as far as I know, but they intimidate the whole block.

Its likely the same thing. Bear spray is 2% Caspiam pepper check what your dog spray is its probably the same product. Human Pepper spray is usually 1%. Be careful with it. Here is what Wikipedia has to say
Quote:
In Canada all products with a label containing the words pepper spray, mace, etc., or otherwise originally produced for use on humans are classified as a prohibited weapon.[42] Only law enforcement officers may legally carry or possess pepper spray. Any similar canister with the labels reading "dog spray" and/or "bear spray" is regulated under the Pest Control Products Act - while legal to be carried by anyone, it is against the law if its use causes 'a risk of imminent death or serious bodily harm to another person' or harming the environment and carries a penalty up to a fine of $500,000 and jail time of maximum 3 years
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepper_spray#Canada
|
So I was wrong you are allowed to carry it but if you hit another person with it you may be charged. I know when you buy bear spray at MEC they make you sign a bunch of waivers before you can get it.

Where are these dogs? Can other people see them or are you the only one?

I bet they don't. They probably intimidate you but when you go up to anyone in your neighborhood now and start talking about dogs your neighbor's just nod their head, say yes, and agree with you until you walk away.

And it's wicked stuff. I know. I've accidentally sprayed myself twice. I usually keep it in a side pocket of my knapsack when im out in the backcountry and dragging it out of the vehicle has caught the trigger both times.
Burns, chokes, just like advertised. Haven't tried it on my dogs though.
Kind of funny. Even if you shoot yourself.
You should try it on yourself first Silver. Just to get an idea of what it's about. Let us know what your impressions are.

Anybody know if I'd be better off not using the spray in an attack situation?

Everyone who wants to use it should buy 2 cans, the first to test fire on a windy day so you understand how it shoots, how long it will go for and more importantly the amount of blowback you get in even a slight cross breeze.

I don't agree with or understand why Sliver takes so much heat for not liking dogs. It's not unreasonable to not like, or be afraid of dogs. They're unpredictable and potentially dangerous. You either like them or you don't. I love them. Always had a dog, and still do. And yes, she's shepherd, so I suppose she could rip a face off of an intruder, if she decided that licking him to death wasn't going to work. But still... She intimidates pizza men and paper boys every day. It's reasonable. It's half the reason I have her. I love the dog, but I also like the home security. And I know that all you other dog owners out there that have intimidating dogs appreciate the fact that if some f'r was creeping out your window, your dog would scare them right off. So why is everyone denying that dogs are threatening and potentially dangerous? Why does everyone start acting like there are always worse breeds out there, when the fact remains that DOGS bite PEOPLE?
We all have our fears. People that are afraid of heights have the luxury of simply staying out of tall buildings. Sliver happens to have a neighbour with ~4 rottis? I wouldn't really want that neighbour, and I love dogs, and particularly rottis. Why is this so unbelievable for you guys?

I know I'm new here, but think about this analogy:
Someone starts the cars kill people thread die to far of driving? High lighting every accident and suicide?

You're being way too friendly for a Terminator. When he questioned you a simple "Hasta la vista, baby" would have sufficed.

Barely coherent. I think you're trying to equate dogs to cars. There's a big difference. Cars sit idly when there's no keys in them. Cars don't attack or do unpredictable things unless there is an idiot or a drunk operating them. Dogs, on the other hand, can act unpredictably without keys. Dogs and cars are not the same.

You have to know the history. Sliver's been a little crazy about certain animals and their populations under two different usernames now. No one has a problem with the way you phrase it but the guy is constantly a little nutty and over the top about it. Buying pepper spray without fulling knowing how it would work is another example of that. It's totally irresponsible as a person to do what he thought he could do.
