Do we seriously care what some mouth breathing, never made the NHL, Vancouver fanboy has to say about what a UFA wants? That would be like the Physics department at any university getting up in arms if I wrote an article about which uni is best based on my watching Big Bang Theory.

If you enjoy Big Bang Theory, I'd say clown college is best for you...

Way to completely miss the point. I don't watch that laughtrack tripe, but was using it to point out the absurdity of giving half a poop what that article writer says.

You lose at reading comprehension.

No idea why people are making such a big deal out of this. We are still far away from drawing big name UFA's in here and there is nothing wrong with that.

Well if there's anything that can't be questioned about this city, it's the passion for hockey.

If some idiot from BC, or Toronto or whatever says otherwise, then he's only kidding himself. Just cause we may not have widespread representation currently (bandwagoners are busy jumping behind contenders) doesn't mean we aren't as hockey crazed, or more than other Canadian cities. Every single FA mentions that when signing here. Not just because we're above the border, but because they see it coming through town with their previous clubs.

What I don't understand is players trying to get away from that attention though. (like Horton) Sure, it may be exhausting at times, but if you're tired of being in the spotlight for the profession that you're in, and in his case, playing on a competitor, then you should be done and retired. That's the whole point you get into the highest level of the sport, otherwise you're basically a floater looking for a payday.

I would also put Ottawa higher on the list personally. I really like it there.

More snow yes but not as cold and they get real spring, real fall, and a nice hot summer. Come on man you need to do better than that as you think everyone here only knows Calgary? A lot of us do travel you know. I just had some engineers here from SNC in Toronto and they even think Calgary is cold.

On another note outside of the weather I find a lot of people from different parts of the world are surprised how early sunrise and late sunset is in the summer here.

I thought he was really hard on Ottawa as well. It's a really nice city and has a better climate than the western Canadian cities.

Justin Bourne has forgotten more about hockey than you'll ever know, guaranteed.

Didn't know that made him a travel agent, weather man and personal life adviser to NHL players.

I could see the climate thing being valid if most hockey players weren't from Canada, Russia, Sweden or the Northern United States. In terms of people normal people not wanting to settle in Calgary - a lot of people happily would. It's rated by the Economist as one of the top five most livable cities.

I don't think Calgary is a top notch destination for UFAs for a lot of reasons but mostly because of the state of the organization.

Calgary had what? 4 or 5 days that were colder than -20 last winter? Add the sunshine to that and I seriously doubt it's the worst climate in the NHL.

Hahahahahahah

Fall in Michigan is about a week, maybe 2. Spring is about the same. The summers are better than Calgary, but the winters are much worse. No chinooks to thaw you out, much more snow, much more humidity which makes -10 feel like -30 and the same short days.

The fact of the matter is that the historic population centers in both Canada and the US have fairly close climates. The Toronto and Montreal areas aren't much different than the Northeast US, certainly not a degree that influences immigration patterns. Recent migration trends have shifted, but that's a very recent phenomenon. The US has seen more migration because it's a bigger country and has historically offered more opportunities. Canada is strong at the moment, but it's size still limits the number of opportunities on offer, even with the US economy struggling. Of all the things that influence overall immigration numbers weather is way down the list, remember most immigrants are moving somewhere because they want to, they're moving because they have to if they want to make a better life.

Ottawa is nice (lived there for four years), but boring as hell.

Calgary has a pretty nice summer - you can actually do things outside. If you ever been to somewhere like New York in the summer you know you can't do anything outside because its 35ish degrees and muggy. Same goes for most of the east coast.

It's not like most of the states have weather like California year round.
