I think sometimes Roger just speculates for the fun of it. He's been pretty guilty of taking loose information and just running with it in the past.

I really hope during Flames orientation, they tell these young athletes to avoid sites like Calgary puck. I come here to read some really good discussions, but their is a huge amount that is just disrespectful of the hard work these kids put into their dreams. And yes, they are still kids and they don't always have bullet proof self esteems, and my guess, like all kids, they are curious and check out the fan sites. It would be nice to see a bit more supportive community from fellow posters. Never opposed to good constructive dialogue, but lets support our young players rather than tearing them apart.

You know, I opened this thread thinking, how can there be anything negative in this thread, cause frankly, I am fed up with reading negativity.

And it didn't take more than half a dozen posts before I was proven wrong.

I could care less if he was put on the team only because his uncle held a gun to team Canada's head. He is going to get more out of this than not being put in this position.

Hope this is a sign of more good things for this guy, and that Flames management is ultimately vindicated by taking him when/how they did.

1) Camp invites for the final two spots were probably based on availability as much as talent. They likely needed bodies who would be able to be in the Northeast US in early August.

2) This is an EVALUATION CAMP. Not a try-out camp. Not a selection camp. EVALUATION CAMP. This is the pre-camp camp. The real camp is in December.

3) Jankowski is a good hockey player. How good? We'll probably see how he stacks up against his peer group in a few weeks.

Which makes his comments about forum posters being basement dwellers just even more hypocritical and hilarious.

The answer's simple. Read the way moon's post was worded, he knew exactly what he was doing with that post, and the thread is the way it is now because of him, despite the fact that he'll act ignorant and say it was the responses to his posts and not the post itself.

It's kind of like this guy from work who gets in a fight pretty much every week when he goes drinking, and always has a story about how the other guy was a drunk, hothead, looking for a fight. Well, sure, but when it happens every week, maybe he should start to notice that there's a common denominator in his weekly fights...himself.

I'm too lazy to check, but I suspect you thought something similar when Darryl hired his brother to coach the Flames?

Still a long shot to make the team, but this will be a great experience for Jankowski. He'll know what it takes to compete against the best junior players in the game. Should give him a good boost to begin his 2nd year in the NCAA.

I'm far from a Jankowski expert, like most I was totally ignorant to his existence until the Flames selected him... but from my limited viewing I don't know if I buy into his boom-or-bust potential.

This isn't any amazing piece of information but when I watch Jankowski I see a guy who could still be a player in the NHL if his offensive game doesn't translate. I really like his skating, his two-way game and most of all his attitude.

That being said, the kid has some sick skill. Can't wait to see him this week and see how he does at the Team Canada evaluation camp.

His uncle may have helped him but it's just as likely that he made it harder (to prove lack of bias) or just recused himself from the discussion. None of us know, let's just celebrate him being invited and see what happens next

Could not have said it better. Good experience for Janko. Hopefully he uses it to his advantage

How is if he earned it actually in question. The Flames prospect camp just ended. Don't you think Hockey Canada might have stopped by to kick some tires?

That's not fair. The challenge is to get him to stop crying, by using text, not spoken words.

The prospect camp started today and it was just physical tests.

The positives about this is it is another distraction from the long summer:
1. SCF
2. Buyouts
3. Draft
4. Free agency
5. This
6. Prospect Camp
7. Schedule release
8. Young Stars classic in BC
9. Training Camp
10. Rebirth of the basterdized Dome
11. Yeahhhhhhhhhh baby!!

I like this distraction.

Great news for Jankowski. This kid is really starting to grow on me. If he can keep putting on pounds and developing his game we may have a Jeff Carter or a Anze Kopitar on our hands! dont wanna get too ahead of myself, but its good to see Hockey Canada recognizing some of his potential.
