I said the Oilers got the better player, I think they won the deal how is that blasting everything they do?
And if you read the thread why bother bringing up things I already answered?

I thought the only team in the league to deal damaged goods were the Oil?

Cannot slam the Oilers at all for this move. They've unfortunately made some great moves so far this offseason. /spit

Because I responded when I saw your initial post, then later saw your responses when others made the same comment as I did.

Definitely Perron is the better player. I also think the oilers messed up developing the swede so maybe he can be reclaimed by STL. The wild card is the second rounder but not a bad price to pay.

It's not hard to come out looking like a hero when your predecessors had the hockey management IQ of a thumbtack.
I'll withhold judgement until the start of the season but some of the previous signings have left me wondering

Good trade for the oilers. Perron is a really useful player

Here's Perron's PPG numbers
2007-08 - 0.44
2008-09 - 0.62
2009-10 - 0.57
2010-11 - mostly injured
2011-12 - 0.74
2012-13 - 0.52
He's basically stagnated and will probably miss a few games and put up around 40 points. People who think the Oilers got a steal probably are thinking of Perron's high draft position and pre-injury hype.
He's a 2nd liner at best, 3rd liner at worst, and will spend time on the IR. Remember the Oilers have the worst medical staff in the NHL.

That top 6 up north might have skill but they have the toughness of a kitten.
I don't know if I like the deal or not, but Mac-T is still following the Lowe play book.
They'll be an improved team, I still don't think their makeup puts them near the playoffs.

I like Perron, but he has gone through injuries in the past, and really is he the the type of players the Oilers should be targeting? They really should be taking Yakupov or Nugent Hopkins and try to swing a deal for Subban in Montreal or Yandle in Phoenix.
Right now they are below average in goaltending, and probably have a bottom 10 defensive core in the league. They remind me a lot of the Flyers from last year actually; great top six, but lacking pretty much in every department.
They still won't finish ahead of LA, or probably San Jose and Anaheim. Which means they'll be competing against Vancouver and teams from the other division for the last couple playoff spots.

How will Perron play in Edmonton?
He went from a token small guy on a hard working tough big team... (he and McDonald were the two small forwards).... He is a hard player but always had a bigger harder player on his line in St.L. Now he is gone to Edmonton where he will be the toughest guy on the line. The guy that skates over to settle things down....
This is an incredibly bad fit for Perron.
Edmonton has picked up Boston's smallest D-man in Ferrence to provide grit on defense and St. Louis's smallest gritty forward.
By Christmas both guys will be very homesick for their old teams.

I think he was still feeling the affects of Thornton turning his brain into mush a bit last year.

Subban would need more than RHN or Yakupov. Maybe Nurse and RNH>
Yandle would allow the Oilers to put out the smallest skilled PP in the league with nobody over 190 pounds...
If you look at the Oiler roster they must be saving by ordering in small Jerseys...Very rare that an Oiler is over 200 pounds.
They have a roster that is sized to the era where Beliveau was THE freakishly big centre a 6-3 205 and Ferguson was the toughest guy in the league at 6-0 180.

If that's true then he'll never fully recover from it, because that hit happened in 2010.

Since when is 6' & ~200lb considered small? Seems kinda average to me.
Oshie, Schwartz, Sobotka, Tarasenko are all similar sized or smaller.

I guess that's true if you consider June 18, 2013 a long time.
Knight for a 4th? Or are you on the fence on that?
Galiardi for a 4th a week ago?

Those are far from obvious 'win' trades IMO.

More obvious wins than this deal, IMO. But I've never been a huge fan of Perron.
Galiardi I'll give you, maybe. But how is Knight for a 4th anything but an A+ win?
