25th or worse.

Shows where you should draft in the NHL though. Center and Defense clearly the weakest part of that team, whereas depth wingers can usually be found in Free Agency.

It also goes to show you that if you get a chance to draft a quality #1 center in the league, you do it or if possible give up whatever you can to get one. By far the most important position of a team.

I wonder what White wished for more, that he kept his mouth shut during the lockout or Lidstrom played another season? Guy sure has fallen quickly.

That's rough, especially for a guy who's played 14 years for them....not to mention his former team mates Roy and Sakic, whom he won a Stanley Cup with, are now running the show.

Tough business, that's for sure. Heck of a forward group they have though, so I can understand why they'd look to move on.

Landeskog - Duchene - Parenteau
O'Reilly - Stastny - Downie
Tanguay - Mackinnon - McGinn

....pricks.

Who would've thought trading for his ex-linemate during their glory years (Tanguay) would bump him off the team in a way.

I am amazed that some of the 2nd tier guys have not started to sign? Seems like after Friday, its gone dead.

Wonder if teams are playing hard ball with 2nd tier guys? If so, then some of these veterans are going to have to sign for far less than they thought going into UFA market.

It really is a tough year for cap space. And the ridiculousness that went on during the first 2 days really does not help matters.

A lot of the veteran free agents themselves are probably being pretty choosy. It sounds like guys like Hejduk are getting offers, but probably lower than expected and from non-competitive teams. In year's past a team like the Wings, might have paid a solid vet 2.5-3 mil a year. It's not happening this year. So these guys have to decide whether they want to play in a secondary market for 1-1.5 mil/year or pack it in and head home.

We'll also see a lot of players wait until further into the training camp process. Many teams are probably hoping to fill their depth out with ELCs from their own system. That doesn't always work out.

Too bad they still have Oiler Syndrome. No defence and below average goaltending.

This is when patience is virtue. I really thought due to the cap going down, you would see more than usual 'bargain bin' players being available late into the UFA period (and probably more going to Europe this year than the norm).

He's exactly the player the Flames should sign to a one-year deal and flip at the deadline when he's (hopefully) putting up good numbers.

Why? Sure, he's big, but god damn he's slow, he can't skate properly and is kind of a liability in the D zone at times.

Would Ryan Whitney make sense on the Flames? He'd be an upgrade to our top 4 D IMO in terms of size + skill.

Giordano Brodie
Whitney Wideman
Butler O'Brien
Russell

No because he cannot stay healthy. The guy is made of thinner glass than Sami Salo.

Whitney had the big ankle injury Christmas 2010-11 and never got back.

The next season he likely wasn't fully ready to go but the Oiler obviously needed him badly and he played and it didn't work.

Last year the Oiler decided they needed MORE scoring and be even less physical so they got and played Justin Schultz instead of Whitney.

With a year of no major set-backs he might be ready to resume his career.

For a 1 or 2 year deal at less than 2M/year there is a huge upside and draft pick at the deadline possibility.

Sami Salo has played 69 out of 82 and 46 out of 48 games at age 38 the last 2 years putting in over 20 minutes /game at age 38.

Updated the list. A lot of the original list remains a UFA.

I would certainly kick the tyres on Whitney & try & sign him on the cheap. He would add size to our top 3 defence.
