That isn't really true at all.

The Cap Floor is $44M for next season.
The Flames are currently at $48M. This includes Kipper's $5.8M that is coming off the books since he retired.
On top of the Knight and Ramo contracts that are not yet counted on capgeek, the Flames still need to add contracts for Backlund, Brodie, Butler, and Cundari.

No additional players or overpaying is required to get to the cap floor.

What the hell is wrong with some of you?

Why would Emery want to sign with a rebuilding team? The Flames are paying a 1B goalie $2.75 million for two years. Someone they traded for and probably expect to start for the team. So this is pretty average deal by most standards.

That Knight contract was pretty surprising at first but I just read that it's a bonus laden contract. Interesting.

It's pretty standard for an ELC.

Love the Ramo contract!! Loved him in Tampa as a 20 year old. This guy has some skills, and did some serious developing over-seas. 2.75 is a good price for a guy who should be a decent younger starter

Maybe for first rounders.

I have no problem with the bonuses but that contract is far from standard.

Cool. I am still pretty green at the some of the nuances of NHL contracts etc.

I don't mind the Ramo signing at all. Like people have stated before, the money is only a problem to the owners in that they have to pay more, but still nothing they can't afford. He is also in a different context being from the KHL.

Additionally though I think the higher contract will also put pressure on him to perform. This last aspect of it makes me not dislike the deal even more.

First rounders get around $1.2 mil guaranteed now, iirc. Knight got two-thirds of that.

If he earns the other $3 million, then we made out like bandits, no matter where he was drafted.

For highly regarded College free agents (what Knight essentually was) it is pretty standard. Schultz and Dekayser got the exact same deal IIRC. Standard Rookie max.

If Knight meets those milestones, then give him the money. I hope he makes 3.75 each year.

Lol blow up in your face? I'm not sure 2.75 is going to break the Flames bank at any point. Especially since it'll be off the books in 2 years. What if he can actually play? Could be a bargin.

What if he's not all that great? Still a relatively small cap for a backup, considering whoever replaces him will likely be on an ELC.

Yeah. I have no clue how that contact could "blow up". If he's terrible? Oh well. Buy him it next year if need be. Not sure there is any negative outcomes here

On the cost of Ramo. Assuming we go with Ramo and MacDonald this year, we will be spending about $3.7 million AAV total on goaltending. As of right now, there are only five teams spending less on contracted goaltenders, and four of those teams have only one goalie signed. We are going to have one of the cheapest goaltending tandems in the NHL this year.

So really if our situation in the net "blows up in our faces", it won't be a function of cost.

I feel like we still have a TON of cap space and our roster is nearly full.

I would have guessed about $2m for Ramo, but I fail to see how people are concerned about it.

It's a 2 year deal so no risk at all. As someone said, if he doesn't work out, he can probably go back to the K and cost nothing. And since this is our most expensive goalie this year, I think we can relax on worrying about the cap hit.

Glad he is signed.

Also, the Knight deal is a standard ELC - no surprise whatsoever. Exactly the same as Cervenka.

If you take into account younger guys ho re lose to making the jump, our roster is over full right now.

It is missing a lot of things for sure, but too many players right now IMO.
