Because he doesn't seem to have much more upside at all and a ton less of a proven track record compared to Emery.

I guess I say if you have to pay more for him to come over from the KHL then let him stay there and play, but I don't have much hope that Ramo is going to do anything of note at the NHL level so i don't really care if he comes or not.

Ramos contract is nothing guys. We are in a rebuild mode and just asked one of the better goaltenders in the KHL that makes boatloads of money to join the flames. You think he's going to take 1mil? Lets be realistic. Not to mention the flames have the cap space AND its only two years and its 2.75mil not 5mil. Chill out CP

They kind of hitched their wagon to Ramo based on how much they gave up for him. There was no going back.

I guess the Flames have changed their policy and now release the terms on their site.

Lmao...

Yeah, I might be concerned about Ramo's contract... if we were anywhere CLOSE to the cap. It's 2 measly years. Not going to kill us if he doesn't work out. Flames really need to do something else to get you guys off of this. Total waste of effort to be complaining about it. It's done.

Can anyone explain. Please how bonuses effect the salary cap in the new cba? Do they count against the cap right at the beginning or only if they are reached?

I think most if not all people are pretty "chill" about the deal already.

Commenting that it seems high is not getting worked up it is just commenting on a deal.

Looks good. Ramo hit is high, but largely irrelevant. Even if he busts. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Seems that Capgeek doesn't like the Flames, so can't check Knight's cap hit for sure. But I'm pretty sure that his cap hit is $3.75M, but as far as real dollars go, he only gets $810K in base salary. He can get up to $3.75M if he achieves all the bonuses. But if he were to do that, he would probably be our first line C.

Good kid.

He better play lights-out and earn all those bonuses too so that he can build a waterproof home.... Or maybe its time they bought a house high up on a hill.

What? They gave up a 2nd and a kid who was a 7th round pick for him, please explain to us less informed people how this is a bad trade.

2 year deals don't blow up in your face. Period. Especially at less then 3 mill on a team that is no where near the cap.

The guy could be making 7 m per year in the k, I like the fact that he turned down money to prove his skills in the best league in the year.

Not only is this contract meaningless to the Flames in their cap situation, but there are a lot of outs to.

If Ramo plays like crap, guaranteed we can loan him to the KHL or he'll fail to report and walk away. Ramo isn't going to spend two years in the AHL with the option of returning to the KHL as a champion on the table.

Worst case scenario, Ramo blows this year. The Flames end up at the bottom of the league. We get a big draft pick, which based on the rest of the lineup, is kind of the plan.

No risk move here. Potentially massive upside if Ramo brings his recent play in the KHL into the NHL. 2.75 mil/year on 2 years is nothing.

I agree 100%

I totally don't get the pissing and moaning over it.

I think it's reasonable market value for a mature veteran from anotherelite level league that still has to prove himself in the NHL. It's the expected middle ground between being a completely unproven professional and being proven NHLer (in which case, he would be getting a lot more).

I'm not saying that it isn't a gamble, but it is a reasonable gamble.

The whole amount counts against the cap, but there is a "bonus cushion" that allows teams to exceed the cap by the amount of any bonuses on contracts, so it doesn't really impact a team's ability to spend to the cap.

Also, in the new CBA, bonuses can't be used to help a team get to the floor, so you can't have a situation like a couple of seasons ago where the Islanders gave Staios a bonus-filled contract where he was unlikely to achieve any of them.

For all intents and purposes, Knight counts as $900,000 against the Flames' cap.

The only concern is if a team is over the cap with bonuses and the player(s) earn the bonuses, any of the bonus money over the cap is taken away from the team's cap the following season. That's really only a problem if a player wins a year-end award or is named to a year-end all-star team (it hurt the Hawks in 2010 when Toews won the Conn Smythe). For a player like Knight, it's unlikely he'll earn much of the bonus money anyway unless he gets a lot of time on the first or second line.

At this point the Flames have to spend like drunken sailers to get themselves to the cap floor. So long as they don't hang themselves by committing to an excessive term contract...who cares.

They don't have to spend anything to get to the cap floor unless they trade one of the big contracts for picks. Even then, they wouldn't have to spend like sailors.
