I agree. However, this approach will not result in securing a legitimate top line centre—not in today's market. I was responding to complaints that the team is middling without signing or trading for any top-line talent.

The only way the Flames manage to acquire a #1 centre to help immediately is via a trade, and the only assets they have to afford such a player are draft picks and high-end prospects. Given these circumstances, the Flames are most certainly best served to be patient and wait for their own prospects to develop.

Sure, but today is free agent day... tommorow teams will wake up look at what's left and find it lacking then the Flames with their extra pieces can swoop in. Just gotta wait a week or two then the calls will come.
