If you catch EAP at the right time and angle, it's a second sun. But so are a lot of other buildings.

Derp. I thought he was saying Brookfield Place was going to be 225-6 as in ~225 metres in height. Totally blanked that the tower's address is 225 6 Ave SW.

I've noticed that BIG (Ingels' firm) has a habit of putting people in their renderings where there won't be people. They're like trees in Simcity IV, you just put them everywhere.

It's safe to say that Jim Shaw won't be moving to the Telus Sky building anytime soon from LeGermain

1. I'm surprised Telus didn't find a way to work a dancing hippo into the design.

2. You can thank the Encana and its Bow for this level of design. It set the standard for quality in signature architecture for the city, and if anyone now wants to impress they have to really step it up too. Calling up Gibbs Gage to fart out a tower is no longer enough if you want to be considered amongst the big boys.

I am impressed. What a fantastic addition to our skyline. A few more buildings and bridges like this, and Calgary's 'coming of age' will be official.

It is nice to see that Calgary put on their big boy pants today.
I like this direction.

I really like the look of it. That twist is something unique to the Calgary skyline. Between that, the bow, and whatever they end up putting where the York hotel is, that will be a pretty awesome area of downtown.

In the past few years we've seen Foster, Calatrava and now Bjarke Ingels. Other projects have seen other very strong firms like Allied Works (National Music Centre). We've had one of the world's most famous artists Jaume Plensa do a great piece in our core.

This is impressive for a city our size, and is moving our built environment the right direction. Ingels is especially exciting as he's still very much up and coming.

The next exciting thing is the Central Library, I've heard that some of the world's most exciting architects/architecture firms have responded to the RFQ - this is great news.

Bunk - ANY word at all on what's going to happen with the south side of 7th Ave SW between Centre and 1st? That stretch is a run-down heap.

The 7th Avenue Autopark proposal is coming to Council soon (its land use redesignation - passed Calgary Planning Commission recently).

seventhavenueautopark.com

It'll restore all the run-down storefronts into arts and retail space. Alley will also be rejuvenated. There will be an automated parkade on top to provide the revenue to do all this. There can be a future office phase on top of the parkade.

Robotic parkades and historic restoration project was approved by planning commission not too long ago. Now it will go through council, and then to DP stage.

IMO the 7th Avenue Autopark definitely needs to up their game for the 2nd phase of the tower. The first phase with the parking looks pretty cool and will offer a different visual design to Sky across the street from it, but the second phase was just a tacked on box. That has no business being across the street from a design like Sky.

The billy's newsstand tower - the adult material is now safely on the 48th and 49th floor.

Everything needs to up their game now, but we can't just put a development freeze on everything that's not worthy of Sky.

Very true. It's not just a bar that has been raised but rather the box of acceptability; even stuff at the bottom end needs to raise their game. However, like you alluded to, we can only demand so much from filler.

Glad to hear, I was looking at the SeventhAvenueAutoPark.com page last night when I posted, but I figured it was dead in the water with so little being said about it. Website hasn't been updated since 2010.

Mid May and September at around noon both Suncor buildings fire their death rays northwards towards Airdrie.
