Holy exhasting day. What a s-show. Not enough dumpster bins, problem #1. Even an area with minor damage I'm amazed at the work that needs to get done. I can't fathom how some people are getting through this. I felt ready to give up and it was minor compared to what other people must be going through. Good luck to everyone out there.
Forgot about the draft seems like a good day.

I was down there at my in laws with my 2 brother in laws. We finished their place and started on their neighbours.

The creek is getting back to its normal trickle right now so the sight is a bit incongruous.

Small matter but shows the power of what happened.

Construction is going well on the two bridges out at Turner Valley and Black Diamond. The bridge structures themselves are intact but huge sections of land leading into the bridges were swept away. Those have to be filled in and roadways reconstructed.

I've seen an aerial shot of Highway 22 between Turner and BD and that was almost severed . . . . they're starting work on that too.

I'd think Highway 22 might be functional within 2 weeks.

Traffic through Okotoks right now is absolutely horrendous as traffic from Bragg Creek can't use BD/TV anymore to go south anymore.

Helped clean a friend's friend's basement in Bowness. The physical toll on the body aside, I can see how this is emotionally draining for the homeowner. It's almost better to swap basements between affected homeowners to clean if you know what I mean.

My mom definitely got her insurance $$$ - she was with State Farm. The water came in through her shower floor, not directly from the river.

Just got back from a day in High River. Helped a friend's parents clean out their basement. Sludge a few inches thick, drywall removal, carpet and underlay, tough, tough job. An army of Mormon volunteers were there and were amazing. Very tired, very dirty. Going for a nice hot shower and then going to pick up my kids.

Yup State Farm doesn't fool around, the adjuster will show up, inspect, determine costs to repair (which can change at a later date, no real issues) then write the cheque on the spot.

When I saw the post before about 'already got a cheque' I knew who her insurer was lol

Then 6 months later they will jack your premiums and raise your deductable to 10 grand.

Also, if anyone can find that montage version of Paul Brandt's 'Alberta Bound', please post it in this thread. Heard it on the radio yesterday and it was pretty powerful. It's just the song with Paul Brandt speaking about the flood and the people of Alberta during the breaks in the song. There might be a video of it too, not sure.

On the radio they said it would be available on itunes in the near future, but if it's on youtube or facebook or anything, I'd like to hear it again now. Thanks.

In Beltline (Mission too), the City and ENMAX have given the OK to most buildings, but many are still displaced and frustrated because property management companies have been hit and miss with their communication and letting residents know if they can come back. Many buildings without working elevators, parkade access, etc. Following things, it appears many property management companies have taken the weekend off, leaving their clients in the dark.

Not to diminish the High River issues, because the property damage there is worse overall, but in terms of displacement, about as many people in Beltline alone were evacuated as in all of High River. Many of them are still displaced.

Some of these companies are dealing with the same issues as are their staff. So it's not necessarily "taking the weekend off". Additionally it's not always a fantastically paid area (some are, but many aren't) and as such you're not going to get the kind of dedication as other areas. Not saying all property management firms are like this as some may go above an beyond - but some have employees that work 9:00 - 4:00 and get paid $30,000 annually and aren't going to grind it out over the nicest weekend of their summer to help out the company they might hate. Just a thought.

^I'd think that a couple weekends every hundred years for the management of these companies to grind it out is reasonable. It's a big part of their business to deal with this stuff. Surely these companies should be aware that hundreds of buildings, and likely a large chunk of these companies' portfolios are depending on their services at this time.

I'd imagine the ones that haven't responded stand to lose a chunk of their clientele.

Totally agree.

As a SysAdmin, a part of my job is to ensure communications for my company. When things went down Friday during the flood and I was informed of issues with our emergency fan out system, I assumed I needed to facilitate an alternative. I worked all weekend to make sure that every single user in our company was able to be contacted about what was going on Monday morning.

Just because 90% of my weekends involve me completely able to ignore work, doesn't mean I expect that every weekend. Some things are important enough to warrant your immediate attention. If you are running a property management company and can't figure out that people being let into their houses is one of those things, then I am sorry but you need to get out of that business.

I think we're lucky this city is big on parkades. It could of been much worse if there was nowhere for the water to go but the main level.

I really don't think the parkades made any sort of difference regarding the water level. You're talking about a raging river engulfing half a city, and a few parking garages that could hold maybe a few thousand gallons. It just wouldn't matter
