Not trying to push a particular product or create a debate about DEET safety, but anyone looking for kid friendly bug spray, this is one of the better ones I've found as it has a DEET alternative and actually keeps them away: http://www.keepsbugsoff.com/en-US/Pr...-ii-clean-feel

That one smells amazing too. It's a very nice alternative, for sure.

I agree. I cant believe the "experts" have blamed this back on alberta.

I cannot fathom why the situation in high river would see Govt authorities politicizing the recovery. According to the Edmonton Journal the dispute has now been resolved to NOW allw the elected MLA for the area into meetings to discuss High River.

This should be a time to bring people together not drive them apart. Whomever made the decision to keep the MLA out of those meetings must have lost their mind.

I Heard a rumour that i do not know has been confirmed, but i would like to know if it is. Is it true that the defeated PC candidate was allowed into those meetings, but the elected MLA was not? Anybody able to confirm that? If that is true, someone should be held accountable for that partisanship gesture in the crisis.

Great news! Entire power grid now up and running. Enmax (with City crews) have done amazing things under very challenging circumstances.

Work continues to get various individual buildings powered up again.

There's no chance they could have kept that quiet if that was true. The MLA for High River is Leader of the Opposition Danielle Smith.

Not sure if the person a few pages back figured out their rental situation, but I thought this might be helpful for anyone who is renting and affected by the flood:

They're also having free info sessions on July 3 for those affected by the flood:

I had a DP in my house since last Saturday.

He got the "All Clear" and was able to go home this afternoon.

We butted heads a bit when he left today because he kept wanting to do "something" for me (for housing him for a week) and I kept wanting him to "not worry about it!"

After about 30 min. of arguing, packing his stuff in his truck, we finally parted with a hand shake and a "take care man".

Nice guy, I expect we will be friends.

Spent yesterday there, ripping out my inlaws place. They are very lucky that the damage, although throughout the basement, is minor compared to their friends. On the drive out we when through some of the harder hit areas, and it is horrible and sad.

What is scary is that this is not the worst hit part of High River, and there was still lots of Red properties.

My Father in-law got back in yesterday. Flooded water all around and somehow his place managed a yellow rating with only sewer backup. The basement floor needs to be ripped up and the smell is horrible but we were able to get the damages approved through insurance and have a crew there already this morning starting to work.

A friend posted pics of their basement in HR yesterday - apparently they were totally dry. That amazes me.

If you're driving from Turner Valley on Highway 22 . . . . just as you're crossing the bridge before you get to Millarville, look left . . . . . . there's a giant motorhome on its side in the middle of Threepoint Creek, obviously swept there by the flood.

The creek is getting back to its normal trickle right now so the sight is a bit incongruous.

Small matter but shows the power of what happened.

Construction is going well on the two bridges out at Turner Valley and Black Diamond. The bridge structures themselves are intact but huge sections of land leading into the bridges were swept away. Those have to be filled in and roadways reconstructed.

I've seen an aerial shot of Highway 22 between Turner and BD and that was almost severed . . . . they're starting work on that too.

I'd think Highway 22 might be functional within 2 weeks.

Traffic through Okotoks right now is absolutely horrendous as traffic from Bragg Creek can't use BD/TV anymore to go south anymore.

My tenant in Erlton got back into their place last night I guess, the parkade is still being cleaned up though.

I found out they do have flood insurance so they're going to find out about that, I guess probably have to decide if the deductible is higher than the actual costs.

Finding all the information about volunteering overwhelming. Information overload. It's hard to know what information is old and which information is new. Highriver website says "no volunteers at this time" but twitter and facebook say "get down here"...but finding out people are being turned away. Tweets about "lots of volunteers in Calgary so go help elsewhere"...then other tweets that say "we need lots of people in community x of Calgary". One tweet says "bring food donations" and another says "no more food". Some places want you to bring work supplies others say they have everything for you. It's hard to know what to do. I thought technology is suppose to make things easier

I went the old fashion route and made a phone call out to the Siksika Nation. They need volunteers for all sorts of tasks. I'm heading out there tomorrow with the wife...asked what we could bring...all they wanted was a comfortable pair of size 11 men's shoes for a resident. I said "that's it?"...they said "yes please". That's pretty incredible. So many many generous people out there! Great work everyone!!! Keep it up! Such a long road ahead for these communities.
