Sounds like a Boogaard, but on defense.

Honestly, I would say Kanzig skates as well as Murray now. Its not saying much but.. Murray is in the NHL.

Kanzig is one tough SOB that no one wants to fight because he is so strong. But that is FAR from the cornerstone of his game.

A Boogard comparison isnt even remotely close.

Chara was exactly like that. Passed over by a lot of teams, and never really came into his own as a dominant defensemen until he went to Boston.

I'll go ahead and say that because he is so big his skating ability isn't even close to being fully developed yet.

Chara was drafted only 11 spots higher....and seemed to have the same problems he has.

This was likely a pick for the distant future. He'll likely never pan out but if he does he will be very good. 3rd round pick so gambling big isn't so bad.

Chara was projected higher before he made the NHL, but it took a very long time before he became the #1 defensemen he is now.

It really takes longer for big guys to develop.

Him and Breen manning the blueline.

Lol. Even if they couldn't produce much offensively their statures alone would scare the bejeesus out of any forward come down near the boards.

Make no mistake if you think he is the next Chara, he is not.

I really hate to write this because not only is he a Royal, but now a flame, but if he does not improve his skating, i will be surprised if he makes the NHL.
A very reasonable assessment, which is appreciated. I know nothing (well, now next to nothing) about him so nice to get impressions from those who've watched him play.

I am sure Flames asked Dave Lowry's input on this kid. From what I've seen on that video report, the kid can skate just needs improving on his positioning. He is only 18 years old and I am sure he'll get better before he leaves WHL. Man it would be nice if he gets a bit ornery as Regehr does. Flames should let him watch Regehr's video of old.

at the very least we got a guy who, if he ever makes it, will be fun to watch tossing carcasses around.

Wonder about that - reports are Lowry didn't leave the Flames on the best of terms.

Would actually say the opposte of your analysis - his positioning is ok (when his head is clear and not running around after guys) but he could be one of the worst skaters in the WHL.

It could actually benefit him to maybe drop a few pounds - yes he is a tall guy but 241 is still a bit on the heavy side. It'll be interesting to see how Rich Hesketh handles him.

Lies.

He sounds like a meaner Hal Gill. Good luck to him.

Bad show, UK. One should never get so worked up about something as trivial as hockey. My God, man, that was tea!

Next you'll be spitting up beer, and before you know it we shall have to revoke your British passport. You could be transported to the colonies!

Not even in the same Country let alone ball park.

Regehr was a first round pick and was pretty highly touted in Junior. He also was on hockey Canada's radar for U-18 teams, the world juniors and the like. Regehr was always a guy whom teams felt had top 4 potential and third pairing down side.

He's a lot closer to a guy like Jason Strudwick, and likely a fair ways behind him at this point in the game. Teams will always take a shot at a guy this size, in hopes that he pans out.

A remittance man still has some honor. You just have to be prepared to shoot your friend's dogs and horses and burn down their cabins.
