Sooo, we have a bunch of Canucks fans here on a Flames forum claiming their selected prospect is just as good as the guy picked ahead of him.

Calm down buddy, I didn't read that at all. Really they are likely both good players that people here are judging based upon scouting reports and the fact that their favourite team selected that player.

Honestly today is a fun day for 30 teams with unlimited possibilities for the future, just enjoy it and don't be so angry.

The Fan960 mock draft had the Flames selecting Horvat at #6 did it not?? Granted it was taken by "some kind of"...

with Bobrovsky wanting 6m and Rask rumored to be getting 7m per year (and who knows what Schnieders next contract pays him, if he plays like the last 2 seasons it would be comparable to Rask) I have zero issue paying Luongo 5.33
The cap hit is fine. Of course it is — that's how the deal was structured. That isn't the problem. There were many MANY people who thought this was a bad deal from the start. Saying that it is a casualty of the new CBA is revisionist history. From the moment the ink was dry on that deal people wondered how long it would be before the Canucks wanted out from under it. Granted, this date came much sooner than expected. But I fully remember people thinking that it might be better for the Canucks if the league overturned the Luongo contract. This outcome was extremely predictable.

Monahan and Drouin were drafted 3 apart. I am sure you agree that there is no discernible difference between them as well?

Plus it could be argued that Horvat was taken a bit early for his ranking, but we'll ignore that.

Ryan Kesler will be 29 when the season stars. He is far from over as a player obviously but his best offensive seasons are behind him. Especially when you consider the reason for his numbers are due to playing behind the guy he will apparently replace.

He ain't getting forty goals again.

Neither team won a playoff game this season. Granted one was actually in them.

And for those worried Feast'r'Famine was the one going after Schneider...

Quote:
All weekend long, the talk was that the Edmonton Oilers were zeroing in on Schneider, and indeed sources told ESPN.com that the Oilers and Canucks met at Vancouver’s hotel on Friday night to discuss the parameters of a possible deal. But the asking price was always too high for Edmonton’s liking: the Oilers’ first-round pick (the seventh overall) plus a prospect and a player to be named. Higher asking price for trading within a division was the Canucks’ thinking. And you can see that.

The Philadelphia Flyers nibbled early on Schneider but didn’t go far down that path. The Calgary Flames got a call, as well, but they didn’t want to give up the No. 6 overall pick as part of a deal. The Columbus Blue Jackets, at the time unsure they could sign Sergei Bobrovsky, also danced a little with Vancouver on Schneider. But, in the end, it was New Jersey winning out.

Some Canucks fans didn’t seem impressed on Twitter that their team got only a draft pick for Schneider, but it was interesting to see the reaction of rival GMs after Vancouver selected center Bo Horvat with that pick.

Oh don't worry sunshine, it won't be long until the Canucks Fans are feeling the same anger and bitterness towards their team as Flames fans are feeling right now.

Aren't you the guy that took the "Canucks got swept" pot shot in a thread with no relevance to that and disappeared? Good to see it wasn't a bear mauling you.

We have our own forums. This one also happens to be a forum of mine cause I like it... assuming I stay away from FOI....wait... what the hell am I doing here again?! This place makes me hate CC, and I liked CC.

I'm assuming the hope for the Canucks brass is that in 2-3 years one of Lack/Cannata/Eriksson will develop into a #1 goalie.

Will it happen? I don't know. But if Bobrovsky can win a Vezina, there's hope yet

As a Flames fan I am gonna try and be unbiased on the deal. My thoughts are that it was a

good deal for the Devils eventho over last year Ive actually soured on Schneider. I was much

higher on him before this year. That being said Gillis should of picked up more for Schneider.

This whole situation with his goalies was handled poorly by him. Ideally he should of made the

deal with TO for Louongo and ditched that contract. Because in the end you still have that

horrendous contract even tho they probably have the better goalie and you have basically traded

a developed prospect in a position of need (debatable but I am not sold on Lach as of today)

for an undeveloped prospect (albeit a highly touted one) for a position they are deep in. The

Canucks have wasted all those years of developing Schneider its like a step backwards in my

mind.

Then, they can trade that guy away too, and spend the next 2-3 years developing a new #1, then Luongo can retire and leave them with a nice $4 million cap penalty for the final 3 years of his contract.

Really good trade for Vancouver. They did what they had to do and came out of the draft with 2 good prospects in the 1st round

You have to imagine that the devils will offer a goalie coach position (special advisor/assistant/etc) to brodeur immediately after he retires too, so no need for it to end after a year. I have no doubt Schneider will have some more growing pains with his new team, but in a year or two he will be winning them a lot of games.
