I can't believe people are upset with this pick. Kid is like a human highlight reel. His highlights are more impressive than Shinkaruk's, puts up similar numbers, and plays with tones of grit.

Sure would be awesome if this kid turns out to be a better RW than VNuts.
|
Sure was. I wasn't going to cry a river though. Love getting Monahan and this Poirier plays the same way that drew me to Nichushkin. Fast and goes hard to the net. If he can slap on 15 pounds by training camp he might have a shot at making the big squad. But the year after seems more likely.

Well, he's our best RW prospect since.... a hella long time ago, so hopefully he can make the bigs in the 14/15 season.

Which goes to illustrate Rule #19:
A good draft pick is the one that makes the guy picking after you go:

By that standard, it would seem that Poirier was a fairly good pick.
I'd like to think Feaster kicked the tires on trading down to #23, but Washington wasn't willing to give anything up for such a small move.
Trading down to #24 would have meant doing a deal with Vancouver, and given how pissy Gillis reportedly was about trading Schneider to a divisional opponent, I can't see how that deal could have been made.
And then you're right down to #25, the guy yelling, 'Pick me! Pick me!' (See Rule #17.)

I 100% agree.
Especially if he's anything like his father...
I've dealt with him before and if he's a chip off the old block, we've dodged a bullet.

Yeah I've met him through friends and he seemed like a monstrous dink... I was really hoping the flames wouldn't pick him up and was quite glad when they didnt. I think we're better off with this flying Frenchman.

At first, I was pissed Feaster didn't trade down for this pick...if the Habs stuff is accurate then I love this pick.
This kid will be fun to cheer for going forward, that's for sure... I love watching fast players.

Rewatching the draft he totally snubbed the poor little Flames kid who wanted to shake his hand! Poor little guy.

Cool. Like the sound of the pick.
Would have been amused if Monohan was gone and we picked him at 6!

That might have caused the biggest meltdown in CP history. Pretty sure they would have taken Lindholm though.

I wonder where he was in the Flames top 10 list?

Well, one thing's for sure, as long as he remains with the Canucks, he'll never get a ring.

Probably right there with Monahan, either right before or right after. Feaster's talk of top ten extra is always talk. Once you understand Feaster just likes to puff his chest all his jabber is kinda amusing. On the Flames site they have a post draft round up with Tod Button where they ask him about Feaster's top ten for Poirier comment and he dances around it pretty nicely.

Good point, last year Button said some things that contradicted what Feaster and Weisbrod said where Sieloff was on the Flames list... guess he learned his lesson.
