I love some of the thoughts on here. If Seguin were a Leaf half on here would be up in arms about us not trading with the Leafs, losing culture etc.... We should only trade with good teams like Boston.
Then when there are rumours about a trade with Boston, nothing but complaining about how Boston would never be dumb enough to trade a good player, so we can't win a trade with Boston so we should trade with Boston.

Basically the Flames should do nothing cause everyone is scared.

A franchise center? When does this happen? Boston has a good group of centers, but if Seguin truly had the ability to be a franchise center he would have forced his way into the middle by now. I don't buy the story he has franchise potential at any position. I think he's a very good player, but he isn't a guy you build a team around. If he was the Bruins would not be trying to move him. You don't move players at 21 years of age with franchise player ability.

Gaudreau will be signed next year. If he isn't that's when the Flames look to trade him.

There is still over 2 years before Gaudreau can call any of the shots.

I believe you, but man I can also see the Bruins telling the Flames and let it get to fans that they have a deal and then pulling the rug out. Would make me sick but I almost couldn't blame them for doing it. |

No, the Flames should do the right thing. Draft and develop their own ####ing players for once! If they have no faith in their ability to do that the owners should step in and clean house, and I mean everyone associated with the hockey operations side of the business.

It was already discussed why Boston might trade him and it has nothing to do with his potential/ability. Bruins are in win now mode, they can't afford to keep all of Seguin/Lucic/Marchand/Rask. He's the odd man out.

I actually prefer players developed elsewhere as Calgary has an awful track record of development.

Of that group you elect to move the guy with "franchise center" ability? |

In my opinion, if you can get a Tyler Seguin at the rumoured price, you do it. Players of his ilk don't grow on trees.

They already have 2 franchise centermen. They have an embarassment of riches at center. Seguin is a top guy but he's not outting Krecji and Bergeron at this point. And Peverley and Kelly are better suited for bottom 6 time. It makes sense for them to trade Seguin, as good as he may become.

If Seguin is available, you go for him.
Ever since the Hall/Seguin, including in the past few months iirc, draft, many on this board have stated the Oilers made a mistake by taking Hall because you can't acquire centers like Seguin except through the draft.

Lo and behold Seguin himself is available.

 Seems a no-brainer to me.

I am in the camp that is nervous about Johnny Hockey not coming to Calgary. His going back to school, the way he talked in an interview earlier this year, just makes me feel like his not going to come into Calgary.
If he was part of a package that got us Seguin, I would be all for it.
