Also the only way Vinny comes here is if Feaster offers a long term big money deal that contending teams can't match.

I think it would be pretty neat to get both Vinny and Richards here (if brad is bought out) on 2-3 year deals

I wouldn't do that personally. Not really interested in NJ's 9th pick that's basically trading Gaudreau for a Domi/Shinkaruk level prospect and trading down the later 1st.

Normally I don't comment on proposals, but this is interesting.

Take Hovart @ 9? Or a D?

Feaster never said he would never sign any post-apex players. He just needs to keep post-apex players to short-term contracts.

The Cammalleri comment was directed at Cammalleri, telling him to expect to stay in Calgary until the trade deadline.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Flames are better this season than last year. The injection of youth in the line-up will do wonders.

Link? I doubt he said he would absolutely not sign any post-apex players.

I'd rather have Shinkaruk.

Safer bet than Johnny becoming another St Louis or Briere. Convert a later pick into a top 10 = win.

Yeah, that's how you build a winner! Draft a guy and watch him develop into one of the most dominant young players to play college hockey and then trade him away for another kid you're going to have to wait for another two or three years until he's possibly ready to play in the NHL. How about showing some patience and don't listen to the delta bravos who are projecting problems with getting him signed. The kid comes to our development camps on his own dime. I think that speaks to his commitment toward being a Flame and a pro hockey player!

i can't tell if i prefer sutter's ninja ways, or feaster's transparency.

i think sometimes we can be a bit over assuming that other GMs are dumb, as there aren't many things feaster says that a lot of fans aren't already thinking, so not sure he's letting any "secrets" out or anything.

it's funny, listening to both sutter/feaster, always made me feel a bit better as a fan, despite their opposite ends of the spectrum approach to how they discussed things with the media/fans.

What about Gaudreau, the 6th and the 28th for the 1st?

If Colorado wanted that, would you do it?

Agreed. A good lawyer will be vague enough to make listeners hear what they want to hear (fans and media).

I doubt Feaster would ever be that specific.

Unless i hear it form his mouth, I'd suspect normal guys like local media would fall into the same trap.

sigh... isn't he tipping teams off right now?

Unwise to tip off other's? Half the teams in the NHL are going after him, its not like its a big secret that he is available.

The only way Vinny comes to Calgary is if Feaster offers him a contract close to the contract that was just bought out but with less years. My guess $7 million per for 5 seasons. No thanks.

That would be two years away if it happens. Worrying about it now is pointless.

When you buy a winning lottery ticket do you frame it or cash it in?

If things were reversed and we held the #1 pick and Colorado had the Flames picks/players, would you make that trade?

I wouldn't touch it in a million years.

The only reason you trade Johnny now is if there is legit fear he will pull a Schultz and lose him for nothing and let a team like Boston or New Jersey get him for free. If the flames are 100% confident they can sign him then you don't need to make that deal

Using that ####ed up logic, when you win the lottery do frame the ticket, cash it in, or go buy more lottery tickets. You're saying they should go buy more lottery tickets and hope they hit another winning number. That's ####ed up thinking.

Worrying about Gaudreau is irrational. You hear about Schultz and Erixon and Knight but you don't hear about the 99% of other prospects that sign with the teams that drafted them without a fuss.

You don't trade Jonny hockey now unless the return is sick. Even though i really like having him as a prospect i doubt the flames could get a "sick" return for him now.

Gaudreau has 2 more years of NCAA hockey if he chooses. Lots of time to figure him out. I have no doubt the flames will go after him hard next summer to leave school and join the pro's. Through those talks the flames will have a much better read on him if he is going to be a Schultz. I don't think he will be, just for the fact that the flames team will still be bad and he will have a great chance at playing time with the big club.

I'd move Johnny hockey if it helped get another pick in the top seven. If moving Gaudreau in a package helped the Flames get Nichushkin and Monahan/Lindholm, I think you do it.
