Well I for one, am shocked. Teams don't want your collection of senior citizens!

Seriously though, I think he's done an admirable job of jettisoning Iginla, Comeau, Bouwmeester and Tanguay.

Do the same with Cammalleri, Smith, Butler and Jackman, and the teardown is complete.

Cammi is a very driven guy, I think he takes that as motivation.
He wants to move on, and play for a winning team, knowing no one is interested in him based on his performance vs his contract, will make him go out and prove he is worth it.
In doing so, he demands a bigger return for us come deadline time.
I see no problem in Feaster announcing this publicly. Players know when they are playing lousy, it's not gonna hurt his feelings to hear it.

No issues with the Cammy thing.

Shows they are content to hang on to him until the deadline, Cammy better be ready to go if he wants a good contract next year.

Don't see a problem with what he said about Cammy. I think they just want to hang on to him until the deadline and get an asset when teams are desperate for the playoff push.

Regarding Vinny, don't see him signing here at all as I would assume his priority would be to win a cup. What Feaster said about him is just a GM admiring his former team captain he won the cup with.

He didn't redefine it. He is simply saying there are certain "post-apex" players that bring more than others who are not "post-apex". Not that hard to figure out and he is 100% correct.

If you make a clear-cut statement saying that the club won't bring in "post-apex" players and then you publicly speculate about doing it you probably just should've kept your mouth shut from the beginning.
Or people should assume that no team is going to 100% live by certain rules. Each decision has to be examined in isolation - you don't NOT make a move because it doesn't fit a criteria you've expressed.

My guess: Because he wants Cammalleri to hear that.

I think it's good. Feaster probably has no intention of trading him right now. He probably did get a few offers, but Cammalleri's trade value can (and should) be much higher than what it probably is right now. If it pisses off Cammalleri and puts him on a tear, then we might actually get something decent for him at the deadline next season.

I don't mind it when someone who is earning their keep requests a trade (provided it's done quietly, of course). It drives me absolutely bonkers when a player slides by and collects his $7M from a team, and then expects the team to make him happier by trading him, even though they'd be taking a reduced return because a 40-goal player played himself into the "3rd round pick" category in terms of trade value.

Screw that. You want out? Good. Talk to me when you're worth something.

I guess now is a good time to discuss whether Johnny Hockey is a keeper, or whether he's one of those "assets" you can deal to help you.

I think the kid is special and will make things happen. But for some, the size issue is too great..

Sure, I agree with that and I think most people would.

What bugs me is that Feaster spoke in definitives before and said that the Flames wouldn't sign any more post-apex players. He could have refrained from making that statement or perhaps phrased it differently.

If that's true out of curiosity I wonder what's being offered. It's hard to gauge the value of a guy of his size.

I think he bolts as a UFA. Perhaps trading now for something while we get good value?
