Heard on the radio today that Lecavalier made his money and now wants to go to a contender ala Iginla. Montreal/Toronto were the two teams Speculated. Not that I view either as contenders, although they are playoff teams.

Rumours before he was bought out that he only intends on playing in MTL should he ever leave Tampa. We'll see if that's true now, cap permitting of course.

Good, I prefer one of the younger FA centers to come here.

If Cammi isn't dealt prior to the draft, Lecavalier will certainly be helpful in upping his value for the deadline.
I think it will take a bunch more money to get him here, luckily that isn't a problem for the next while. I wouldn't mind him for 2 or 3 years while we develop our prospects, he would instantly become the best centre we have had since Nieuwendyk.

1 yr 12 mil for Vinny. We eat 6 mil at the dead line for an extra first. He goes back and signs with Tampa. This keeps are cap space available for next year.

Obviously you have the UFAs in Vinny, Weiss, and Ribiero
Maybe Feaster is implying they are looking for a good Center for him to play with.......on another team.

It just says find him a good Center, it says nothing about that Center playing for Calgary.

Pat Steinberg ‏@Fan960Steinberg 10s Feaster wouldn't tip hand on Lecavalier but didn't deny interest and says he's a player that transcends their post-apex definition. #Flames

Looks like the Flames are going to go big for vinny

Mark Masters ‏@markhmasters 13s Feaster calls Lecavalier a 'special guy, special player' but says it'd be unwise to tip off others on whether Flames have interest in him

Your penciling those 3 guys into the top 9?

I would pencil them all in as bottom 6 centers.

We might have to play one of the three on the 2nd line because we have nobody else, but that is part of the reason everyone expects the Flames to be the worset team in the league.

I see the depth chart on d being;

1 - UFA
2 - Stajan
3 - Backlund
4 - Knight
R - Reinhart

With Horak, Bouma and Jones all playing wing, but usuable as centers if there are injuries.

And weather Sajan or Backlund is the second line guy, they would be in way over there head, if they were on a good team

I think Stajan & Backlund both played well enough last season to justify sharing 2nd line duties. Neither of them are quite bottom
6, nor are they 1st line guys.

Stajan is probably better as a 3rd line centre, but he's nowhere near dominant enough on face offs or the physical game to be classified as a 'good' 3rd line centre.

If we can get our mits on someone of Vinny's stature I think Stajan is suddenly very expendable, and his value would be near its highest considering his cheap contract & slightly improved play.

Rolling with Vinny, Backs, Knight & Jones/Reinhart next season makes a lot more sense to me.

I was more addressing Q's worry that if we got a Vinny type player we would have to many "Top9" centers. Thats crazy.

Knight will be a 4th line guy that might get some extra chances, he is 1st year pro, never played more than 40 games.

I also don't like pigeon holing lines based on there number. I see no reason a big, strong, physical, North/South, responsible line can't play 17 minutes. I also don't see why a fast, puck control, scoring line can't play 12 mintues. If that is where the players match up best.

Backlund and Stajan are 3rd line guys on a good team, but we will be stuck with one of them playing top 6 minutes. That is why every one thinks this will be a bad team.

If we could add 2 top centers then there would be 1 odd man out. If we can add one top center that's just getting back near respectable.

Okay with that but please don't make it some stupid long term deal. 3 years would be nice.
