It's ok, still less crazy than when he wanted to offer sheet clutterbuck. Regarding the trade I'm jet glad we got rid of another NMC. Gotta clear most if those out

Second of all, that's way too much of a price to pay for Clutterbuck. Most I'd give for him is the 36th overall pick.
Even with our piece of crap team we will still beat the Oilers next year. Unless they get Clutterbuck. I sure hope he still has a vendetta with Hall for that blatant attempt to injure knee last year.

I have my doubts that he would put up anywhere near 50 points next year with this lineup. Beyond the point that he gave off every vibe that he didn't want to be here next year.

Maybe on a bottom feeder but certainly not on any team that resembles a contender.

Time to start working towards the latter and losing those 2 will be a good step in that direction.
I don't think I understand your point. Half of your posts mention how far away we are from contending. We are a bottom feeder. Those two players are first liners on this team. Will they be taking spots away from our high picks in 5+ years? Can you expand?

Disagree. He played terrific in the World Championships this year.

We basically just got Blake Comeau for Alex Tanguay but on a worse contract!

True, Tanguay does have a lower cap hit than Jones. You are juding Jones off of half a season, and if Jones becomes a 3rd or 4th liner then that's a win. Moving Tanguay for a 28 year old 3rd or 4th liner is totally worth it. And if we have to buy out Jones next year, then nothing lost. Tanguay has 0 value to the Flames on the roster, not the type of player we need now in style or in age, and Tanguay has limited to no trade value, he was not in demand.

This seems to be the best option to explore IMO if the options with Tanguay are 1) keep him on the roster, 2) buy him out, 3) accept this trade. It's really a no risk move for the Flames.

Put Crosby on this team and he'd have a hard time getting 50 points too. Can't really blame Tangs for not wanting to be here, Cammy doesn't either, who would want to be on this sinking ship besides young guys trying to prove themselves?

where is this report?? Wow if the Oiler pulled that off they might actually beat us in the standings next year!

#28 and Backlund to the Wild please!

Sorry to do this to you:

"This just in from veteran NHL writer Mike Russo of the StarTribune in Minneapolis: “Clutterbuck might be willing to sign a cap-friendly one-year deal, but he also has value on the trade market. One team hot after him is Edmonton; the Wild has talked to the Oilers about a deal that would include Minnesotan Tyler Pitlick.”

Not sure if I'd trade Blake Comeau for Tanguay.

Lol if Clutterbuck was that much of a game changer, the Wild wouldn't be looking to dump him.

The best part of this trade is never having to see tanguay play the point on the powerplay in a flames jersey again

What makes you say that? Jones is likely a top two RWer with our depth there. Only competing against Stempniak and Hudler. I see him as a similar player to Stempniak, slightly bigger. I think all 3 of those guys will be competing for the top two line roles.

Don't mind this at all. Kind of meh on SOB but to be honest Sarich could barely dress for the 6th worst team. SOB will likely be a stop gap/insurance until Breen is ready and will probably be easy to off load next year if needed. With Kipper gone and Cammalleri on deck taking on a little more salary is nothing...It is necessary.

Jones is just entering his prime, and has shown 20-30 goal potential. For that alone, I like the attempt, here.

Tanguay is 33, turning 34. Sarich was becoming irrelevant to this team, period. Only played like a third of the games, anyways...

Regardless, two guys of Sarich and Tanguay's ages had no business being around this rebuild, especially still so early in the process. Glad we unloaded 'em.

Well Shane O'Brien just said on the radio that he hates the Canucks, and that they make it easy to hate them. He just became a lot more popular here in Calgary.

Flames expect O'Brien to be in the mix of their starting six; Jones in the top-nine. #NHL
Well I'd kinda hope so!

It'll be a while before he gets the chance to prove it but I think Jones is far, far more likely to hit 20 goals again.

Comeau we got for free. Jones we traded for. I think the Flames are expecting to get a top 3 line RWer out of this trade not a 4th line grinder like Comeau was.
