Interesting statistical analysis on why you should not take defensive dmen early in the draft:

Just based on the stuff that was outlined above, you can say with a fair degree of certainty that Zadorov, Morin, Heatherington, Diaby and Kanzig all will not be long-term impact NHL players (coincidentally, all of these guys are 6'5 or taller, with the exception of 6'3 Dillon Heatherington) unless someone gets really, really lucky. It just goes to show the love affair that scouts have with nice bodies, as Dan Dorazio will tell you:

We have a real good opportunity this year to take a guy that we might shy away from in past years because he is really one-dimensional. But this year we can take him in the first round because you have a chance to surround and support him with the other two picks.

Who is he talking about? Mantha? Morrissey? Theodore? Maybe even Domi?

Nicushkin?

But I think he's just saying it theoretically.

Unfortunately that sounds like Nichushkin.

Nichushkin isn't really one dimensional

It kinda sounds like Shinkaruk who gets noticeably ignored around here, but I'm absolutely terrified he's on our radar

Perhaps he isn't one dimensional.

Like I said, I don't even think he has one specific player in mind. Sounds to me like he's just saying the Flames can afford to look at a player like that.

If they are talking later picks Santini seems like a prototypical Weisbrod pick and appears to bring 0 offense with 0 offensive upside. Maybe Petan (especially based on other comments) is looked at as offense only with his size.

If they are talking early on it would have to be Nichuskin who would be one dimensional mainly based on attitude because he has the physical gifts to be a fine defensive guy.

As for the list above I don't think Domi or Morrisey are really one dimensional.

Sounds like Nichuskin and Shinkaruk to me.

Though I don't think they're all that more one dimensional than the players around them. But in terms of higher picks that could be there at 6, those two first come to mind.

I think Domi is a little one dimensional, but I think Morrisey is more well rounded than he gets credit for.

Pulock? Just asking, because I have not seen him play and all I hear about is the shot.

I haven't seen much of Domi outside of the Memorial Cup and am going off of reports and Ontario posters here which seem to indicate he is fine defensively.

To be fair, that's all I've seen him in too, but he didn't to be even sort of interested in a defensive game during the Memorial Cup. It seems odd that someone who has a defensive game would just abandon it at the most critical point of the season.

Generally this place is pretty funny during the draft always a couple unbearable a-holes who get pissy when the draft doesn't go exactly as they wanted but that's normal unfortunately.

Hopefully someone TylerSVT's the draft this year and provides the laughs.

I'm dreading but perversely looking forward to the inevitable people who immediately write a pick off because they were "off the board" or "too early" when they've never seen the guy play and their only frame of reference is the THN Draft Preview.
