That's when I say "Fucale Flames!"

Yakupov and the top 3 last year are, IMO, the weakest group in a long time.
Highly unlikely that he goes #1 in any other year in the last 10 years. Fleury was a bad pick in hindsight, but Nichushkin would not have been ranked higher than Staal and Horton IMO.

I have no idea what ceiling Yakupov will eventually have, putting up 38 pts in 48 games in his rookie season many here believe he is a poorer quality 1st overall draft selection . With this in mind, Stephen Stamkos who most consider an elite player, scored 46 pts in 79 games in his rookie season. I'm not going to suggest Yakupov will develop into that kind of elite player or not, I don't have access to that crystal ball but his 1st year in the NHL indicates he has the potential to be a excellent highly skilled NHL player.

This pretty much confirms that. No, not confirm but reaffirm. I just don't get it sometimes.

Damn, I was just about to say the same thing. Taking him so early would be one of the worst moves the Flames have ever made in a long series of terrible, horrible moves over the years.
He has us taking a goalie, and two defensemen! Terrible analysis, but if that happens CP will probably explode and be offline for a couple days.

What an idiot.
Obviously whoever did the mock has never covered the NHL in their life. That or just trolling the Flames, in which case, how original...

Absolutely zero chance the Flames draft Fucale at 6, they know they have to make a solid pick at that slot. The fan base would form a lynch mob.

I wonder if he is a closet Jet fan as he has Nichushkin going at 13 to them

Hah. Nichuskin at 13. Yeah, good chance he's a jets fan. Like a potential top 3 talent is going to slide ALL the way to Winnipeg.
What a joke.

I did back that up if you review the posts above. With quotes from the Red Line Scouts chat that just ran. Gave a link as well. They said he Barkov and Nischuskin are right there with Yakupov and would have challenged for 1st overall last season.
EDIT: And for the record I am not a Nichushkin supporter. I just think it is silly to say we won't pick him because he is Russian. I am fine not picking him if the Flames don't see him as the BPA at the time of the selection.

Pat Steinberg's pick for the Flames at 6 is ......................... Nichushkin.
While stating his personal knowledge of players is limited, this choice was based upon discussions with various team scouts.
Somewhat surprising, his sources cast some suspicions on Monahan's compete level which is the first I've heard of these concerns.

Yeah, they were very puzzling comments. Especially considering that compete level is one of the primary checkmarks for Monahan (as opposed to Nichushkin)

Take Pat with a grain of salt. He's done a commendable job filling up afternoon air space but he's not a wealth of hockey information as he's a hockey fan not a hockey guy. I don't know how many times I have had to shake my head when he comes out with his "I believe....." comments. If the guy had a media vote for the NHL awards he would be the only guy putting in a ballot for Martin Hanzal for the Hart Trophy.
