Well the argument in Canada was that "men would start marrying horses, women would start marrying their sons..." et cetera, and most of that has come true in the last ten years.

Well for most of those people that's true, they built their little empires on oppression.

Looks like I better call up the divorce lawyer and file papers against my wife now that the sanctity of marriage has been violated and our wedding vows are meaningless.

Oh, what's that? This doesn't affect me at all and my life will continue just the same as it always has? Carry on, then.

Although I despise him and his ideology, and although I am not very familiar with American law, after briefly reading the decision, it seems to me that Scalia J. gets the mootness issue correct. This decision strikes me as the majority bending over backwards to arrive at, ultimately, what they saw as the just result.

Like I said, it's a matter of time. Here's a link to a recent poll:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-...-sex-marriage/

Of particular interest:
Quote:
The poll suggests the extent to which people's views have changed. Thirty-three percent of Americans who now think same-sex couples should be allowed to legally marry say they once held the opposite view.
Quote:
Still, support for same-sex marriage among Republicans has increased from just 13 percent in May 2012 (after the President announced his support of same-sex marriage) to 37 percent today.
The majority of the population is already in favour of it, and as people see this doesn't damage society the way they are being told by religious and political leaders, they will lose their vocal opposition to the idea of same-sex marriage.

It's a matter of time...
