Wow, Encana is saying staff will possibily be allowed back to work on Friday. I would imagine it's basically the same for Cenovus.

Encana Corporation@encana4h
Telus building may open to #Encana staff Thurs., June 27. THE BOW may open to #Encana staff Fri., June 28. To be confirmed Wed, June 26.

Im hearing from a few friends that they're being told Friday at the earliest to be let back in. Most are near Eau Claire so similar to the Livingston story. Given that Monday is Canada Day, I suspect a lot of people might not be asked back until Tuesday.

So you didn't have to work today yet you were driving downtown?

My wife went into the office (Husky building I guess) for a short time to pick up some stuff so she can continue working from home, had no issues, but this map was linked from the Calgary blog and it was very helpful in visualizing what roads are in what status.

http://google.org/crisismap/2013-alberta-floods

No idea how up to date it is tho.

I've heard that a lot of the lights are still out of sync.

Plus people aren't working, so they're out cleaning up and shopping.

Give everyone DT this week off IMO. Make 'em work FT during the Stampede with no parties.

Good idea, that way we can catch up on...HEY! No way!

Nice try, TTC.

My manager has been really good in providing detailed information about our building (11th Ave/4th St SW) - here's a snipping of the update email we received last night:

"..our office remains in the ‘Restricted Access Zone’…. It’s important to understand what this means.

In order to enter this zone, you are required to Check In and Out at a Re-Entry Center, showing
credentials, and having good reason to enter. Road travel is very restricted, so you will likely have to walk in. If you are able to drive, without power, you cannot park in the parkade, or privately owned parking lots, so you’d have to use up street parking, impeding the teams working on the recovery.

I understand that the instinct to return is heavy, but this access is intended for building owners, landlords, and essential personnel, re-establishing their business. Power and gas will likely be off or sporadic, and services (like our internet and phones) will not be available. The building itself will have no elevators, key passes or ventilation… there has been no fresh air in the building since Thursday.

Even in the Western Downtown Core, which has been deemed ‘Open’, the city is begging business and staff to work remotely as long as possible, leaving the streets open for recovery staff. Tonight the Mayor send out a new plea, asking ALL business to keep their employees home. They want people working, but off the roads if at all possible.

If the power is restored tonight or tomorrow, it may allow the office to open for business Thursday at the earliest. We have IT and HR Staff poised to head into the office to reestablish our systems, as soon as practical. Until that task is done, there is little point in going there."

Back at work today. I come in pretty early but it did not look like you could access downtown from westbound memorial. Both the 4th ave flyover and the Edmonton trail bridge were closed at 6:20. I also heard that NB Macloed did not open at 5AM.

No idea how I am going to get home. Not really looking forward to that drive.

We're on 12th Ave & 5th St and basically hearing the same thing from our boss & the building management company. Still no power, stay away from the building.

Anyone experience the deerfoot on the mornings right now? I would think that with memorial closed there would be less traffic but it also goes right by the weir so I figure people constantly slow down to look causing stupid jams. I am going to the airport tomorrow (before 8am) and want to see if that is an option or if I should skirt it by going 52nd or 84th.

doh...should have mentioned coming from the deep south

Deerfoot was better today than yesterday. Yesterday, I had to take a back route through Barlow to 17th into Highfield Industrial to even make it on time. Others that live even closer than me taking Deerfoot got in about 30 minutes later.

Yesterday there was basically a circle formed by 16th Avenue, Deerfoot, Glenmore and Crowchild that had nightmarish traffic. I'm willing to bet that circle of doom will continue today.

I never thought I'd be bummed out by not being able to go to work, yet that's kinda how I'm feeling today.
