The way to check is to look at the insurance certificate you should have received when you bought it and see if flood is listed as one of the insured perils, or call your condo mgmt co. and ask.
I checked our building's insurance certificate and we're covered for floods with a $10,000 deductible. We weren't affected by this flood, but I'm happy we have the coverage just in case.

My post linking her tweet and attached article wasn't suggesting there isn't legit science behind climate change. It was some politician was being insensitive to the hardships of people in this city.

People love opportunities to soapbox and point the finger at wrongdoers. I'm sure over the coming days and months more people will cast this as our own doing and something we deserved.

I'm trying to keep my water use low. Is it fine to start washing clothes, shower and flush normally? No, I don't leave brown sharks in the bowl.

Well, like talking about gun-control after a school shooting, I think it's natural to talk about something while it's relevant in the news. If not now, when? There are definitely a-hole insensitive ways to go about it (ie, Andy G.), but I think it's a legitimate discussion we should probably have before people forget and move on. And people will move on if you give them enough time...just look at how soon America forgot about the Connecticut shootings.

I don't think "deserved" is the right word, but I do think the word "consequences" is fair to use. We've had two "100-year" floods in less than a decade...chances are there's a reason for that. How much of that is climate change related, I don't know, but I do think it's at least partially responsible. It's not just Alberta-related either of course...increased extreme weather activity seems to be happening everywhere around the world.

Either the Calgary Stampede organizing committee have been following CP or we weren't the only ones who liked the "Hell or High Water" slogan. The Stampede is now selling t-shirts with the phrase on the front, and all proceeds are going to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Floods Fund.

They're not available in kids sizes but I've already ordered shirts for me and my wife....

Damn I love this city!

This is a discussion for another time. And i don't think there is any scientific study to relate this flood to anything other than that Calgary is in a flood plain and there have been several flood events in our recorded history and probably thousands before that. The I told you so crowd can shove it for now.

If you stop the O&G flowing and you will create an economic disaster of epic proportions. That's kind of the issue. I am not a fan of people who set on their soapbox and that is their only contribution.

Fact is when disaster hits BC - Albertans won't be on the i told you so train, will be on the train to BC to help.

There's still quite a bit of mud and sludge covering the insides of the flooded buildings but I was surprised at how much progress we made today and things seem to be looking pretty good.

I do find it hypocritical that climate change boosters use events like this to bolster their argument but condemn the deniers for the same behavior. I personally believe man-made climate change is occurring, but it's my opinion that no realistic solutions currently exist to combat it in a meaningful way.

That shirt links to the ladies section. When I go to it through mensware, it's still in the ladies section... Anyone certain this is at least a unisex tee and not lady-cut?

in the 1932 flood the bow river flow rate hit 1520 m3/s
http://people.ucalgary.ca/~hayashi/g...s/515_0609.pdf

I can't seem to find the max flow rate for 2013 but it was 1450 m3/s on Jun 21 at 6 am
http://www.environment.alberta.ca/ap....aspx?wor=1539

So you know..this proves nothing but it's happened before, I don't think the double whammy of both the bow/elbow happened in 1932.

It better be unisex, or I'm going to be looking pretty funny in a couple of days.

I had actually wondered that myself. Haven't seen or heard anything from him that I can recall. Must be some hard feelings, we have seen other former Flames sending along their best wishes and offering support. Considering his place in the community for the past 15 years, shocking actually.
