It lets you search but I still can't make a pin. Unless I am doing something wrong which could be a good possibility

Heard from a customer (I work in the aggregate industry) that the Stampede is looking for 16 000 ton of sand for the race track (that's a LOT of sand).

That says to me they're pretty much 100% going forward with the 'pede

Hmm, that doesn't sound like that much.

At about 3300 lbs per cubic yard, that's about...10 yards of sand? Half a dump-truck worth?

If they use a dump truck with a pup trailer its roughly 400 truck loads.

That's not a ridiculous amount. I'm sure the SE Ring Road has been moving more material than that every day, or at least have been at some points this spring.

Very possible, the biggest constraint on the Stampede will be lining up trucking and material supply with complete delivery over the next week.

The water didn't bend the tracks per se. Water eroded the ground that was supporting the tracks.

I just got back from Europe and doing the flyover in the plane over Calgary was insane. McKenzie Meadows and Inglewood Golf Courses no longer exist, several other areas look like swamps and everything appears pretty much at a standstill. No doubt gonna be several months before things are back to normal, looking at the damage to the CTrain stations from 39th to downtown it looks like there is little to no chance they'll be operational before the end of July.

I wouldn't be surprised if the city puts a pretty huge amount of manpower on getting the tracks back in order. The Stampede will be pretty empty without the train traffic.

Can anyone tell me how long it realistically could take to repair a bridge like the one at 25 Ave? Went home yesterday and saw it was washed out. With the city going ahead with the Stampede, I would imagine getting that bridge up would be importent (same with train) as it is one of the access points for the Stampede?

Selfishly, I'm hoping that the Stampede clean-up helps benefit my neighbourhood indirectly. I couldn't believe what I saw yesterday.

Just requested a day off to go help/volunteer clean up my neighbourhood tomorrow

That's a fairly short section of track, it should take too much to rebuild it so that trains can go on it. I wouldn't be surprised to see it open by Stampede.

Problem right now is that all the sand in the city is allocated to the ring road. Manufacturing sand rate is about 400 ton/hr (maybe) and that's assuming materials are available to create the sand in the first place (aggregate).

Adding to the problem is that Lafarge is the primary contractor on the ring road, who as far as I know is still not running their Deerfoot plant. They have huge penalties in place if they can't meet deadlines, so my guess is they will buying up all their aggregate from producers anywhere near the city. This will limit the availability, unless you want to truck it in from somewhere else ($$$$).

It's an interesting problem for sure.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Canadian Pacific helping out with that; they're pretty good with rebuilding rail lines in a hurry.

Well if they cannot get the trains operational by the start of Stampede there really is no point at all to having it. Last thing the city needs is 10-20 times the usually car traffic of people trying to go to Stampede. Or more likely, very few people will actually go to Stampede.
